If you feet smell (or someone else in the house!) you can use it as a foot wash!

My mum's bottle of gravy browning is at least ten years out of date. Since she only uses a drop at a time, and "nobody has died yet!", it'll be on the go for a good few more years I reckon.

A good tip for sausages to make sure they are well cooked is to place in a pan with cold water and bring up to a long simmer for 10-15 minutes and then brown in a frying pan or under the grill, this ensures a well cooked moist and succulent sausage .

Thanks shammyjack. I've always followed my mum's example on cooking sausages - cook til black then you know they're cooked through.
When I was 12 we had a fire in a bedroom. I smelt the smoke from my bedroom, went downstairs, saw mum was cooking sausages and went back to bed!
Luckily, my grandad was visiting and noticed smoke pouring from the bathroom window, so the damage was confined and no-one was hurt.
some people grin and bear it, others smile and do it :)

I'd eat them. My freezer is full of stuff like that!

I've got a phobia about using out of date food so I bin it even it's just 1 day over the date!! On the plus side it makes me watch the quantity of what I buy so I don't throw out much. You can still have a full freezer and cupboards with tins without keeping old food.

  • I ignore any dates on fruit and veg (cucumbers, strawbs, salads etc), if it looks edible, I'll eat it! I don't eat meat so can't comment on that but I am more careful with dairy. i'll use milk a day or two past its date if it smells ok- cheese goes out if it's past its date (doesn't happen very often).

Dried cupboard stuff would get used- not sure about jars as i try and make sure I use things before they get that far!
