we'll as long as it didn't smell odd, strange, or off i would use it. pork tends to discolour very quickley which puts people off but if it smells ok it should be.
end of the day what ever people on here say, if YOU'RE not sure don't do it
  • I agree with the above post - have a sniff and if it doesn't smell off, you could try a small piece after thorough cooking, and if it tastes okay risk eating it.
  • If it smells ok, its ok :-))

Just wanted to say that if food is contaminated with food poisoning bacteria it may well look OK, smell OK and taste OK!
If it looks or smells bad, the bacteria that cause this are different and may not even make you very ill. Salmonella and the other nasties are undetectable until you start to feel terrible!

That's very true, but salmonella is usually down to poor storage/handling with the bacteria introduced from another source. Salmonella can affect perfectly fresh food and keeping food for too long doesn't increase the risk of contamination.

Salmonella will also be killed if the food is thoroughly cooked.

Yes, sorry salmonella wasn't a very good example, thanks for putting me right!
Just wanted to stress that the test of if it looks and smells OK isn't always reliable.

sorry to jump in on this thread.i have found a pork joint at the bottom of our freezer.i,m sure i bought it 12 months ago(must have burrowed it,s way to bottom of freezer lol)will it still be alright to eat?my mum says no but my mil says yes it should be fine as long as it,s cooked well.hope it will be ok as i dont like trowing stuff away.:o
  • Yes it should be absolutely ok if it's been frozen all this time. The only "drawback" is the taste & texture might not be as perfect as it could be but in terms of safety it should be ok as long as it's thawed and cooked properly.

Hi, well they are eggs that are out of date (dated 10th), are they still ok to use? I was thinking of hard boiling to take to lunch with me and one for OH for tomorrows lunch. Seems a waste otherwise. Thanks
