They will be absolutely fine. Dried pulses do not go off or bad. They can take longer to cook though, the older they are, but yours are only 3 months past their best;) I've no idea how old mine are because I keep them in plastic tubs, but I bet they're knocking on a bit.0

Thank you all, I will soak them overnight!Trying to be frugal and sensible with my pennies.0

As they are dried and not long past the use by date, I would use them. I often decant dried food into jars so have no idea of when they go out of date and have never had any problems.

I am always bit wary about these now, I once made some broth with split peas, it tasted terrible, sour! I could not think what was the matter until someone said the split peas might have ben "off".0

500g unopened organic brown rice exp 04/06!

I don't know if this is the best place to ask this but I am going to get back into my aromatherapy again (only as an amateur using books and for home use on the family)...I had purchased quite a few oils a couple of years ago and the oils have been kept in a tin in a dark place for a while...they don't seem to have any 'use by' dates on them (although a few purchased from Boots do have 2005  )
I have sniffed them a bit and they seem to smell how they should (dh is just using a few drops of lavender in his bath - suffering from man flu bless)
Anyway does anyone know if they are ok to use in oils/baths/burners etc. or should I throw them away and re-purchase?

Me too please! I also want to know - 40 odd bottles of oils in this household.:o0

I apply the same rule to oils as to food - if it smells and looks okay it probably is!0

It all depends on the type of oil and what you are using them for - if it's for the fragrance, then you will be fine, if you are hoping for a specific therapeutic benefit, then fresh oils work best. Always keep them in a cool, dark place too. I have used out of date oils without problems in room burners, pot pourri etc, but for massaging I would use something in date.
Citrus oils tend to have the shortest shelf lifes, woods seem to age beautifully. I am qualified, I hope this helps you?0
