I've never thrown eggs out even when they've been well out of date..by months  It doesn't often happen here as I rotate them to the front of the fridge its usually when my neighbour 'donates' some..To this day I've never had a stinky one..how old do they have to get before this happens
anyone know?? Just curious really

My hens lay us eggs, but I'm yet to train them to put a date stamp on :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:
D&DD - if the egg is intact (no cracks) they last perfectly well inside the shell for weeks or months.
There's an older thread here - out of date eggs.

I've read the old thread mentioned, and some others, and just out of interest am I the only one NEVER to have had a bad egg? ( Not even when the use-by was 3 weeks before:rotfl: )You never get a second chance to make a first impression.0

As above, they should be fine and it is easy enough to check. Go for it - join the Best Before Date Survivor's Club! The acquisition of wealth is no longer the driving force in my life.0

If you're going to crack them open to check first why not poach them? Just as good as boiled imhoWinnings

I am boiling a gammon for our roast dinner this evening, I was thinking about making a soup with the stock from it, for lunch tomorrow, have found some yellow split peas in the cupboard but they expired Oct 2007, do you think it would be ok to still use them?

yes i think they would be ok to use. i've often found pulses and other dried goods at the back of the cupboard out of date by couple months, and have used them, not poisoned any of us yet :rotfl:enjoy life, we only get one chance at it:)0

Hi skyegirl,
As they are dried and not long past the use by date, I would use them. I often decant dried food into jars so have no idea of when they go out of date and have never had any problems.

Hi. I would use them but soak the peas overnight. A good tip if you keep dry beans and pulses in a Tupperware or similar is to put the expiry label in the container. I love split pea and leak soup........yum!0

I would use them, might take a bit longer to cook and not have quite as much flavour, but I have done this with loads of other pulses, and they have always come out fine!0
