Virgin PAYG unlock query?
hi, i was told that if you buy a Virgin PAYG mobile and then buy £30 of credit they will then unlock the phone for free?
is this right, it sounds a bit weird?
also do you have to just top up, or top up and use the minutes before they will unlock it?
cheers for any help:D

That's correct - have done it twice myself. All you have to do is load £30 onto the SIM, it doesn't actually have to be used to qualify. Send them an email request including your full details including mobile make and IMEI number and they send the code out by post usually within a week.0

you have to request the code from them
according to this you need to spend the credit
5(i) At no additional charge, we will provide the code to 'unlock' your mobile phone, as long as you do not owe anything for that phone, you have spent at least £30 on airtime with us on that phone and you have complied with terms of this agreement. You will need to register that phone with us for security reasons.0 -

You need to spend £30 on the credit, not use £30 worth of credit.0 -
I disagree.
You need to spend £30 on the credit, not use £30 worth of credit.
yeah i'm pretty sure they would'nt care if you never used it, as long as you paid them to get it in the first placeWhere the !!!! has the Shrug gone! just doesn't cut it...:think::huh: and these don't come close0 -

As I said before I've done this twice successfully and received my unlock codes by post; all I had to do was load the £30 airtime onto the SIM, not actually use it. You 'spend' the money on airtime when you actually buy it in the first place and record it on a SIM not when you subsequenty use it. Here's the exact email Virgin customer service sent me when I last requested one a month ago:
If you'd like to use a SIM card from another service provider in your Virgin Mobile phone, you'll need to have your phone unlocked first.
We can do this for you, absolutely free of charge, if you've spent or topped-up with £30 or more in airtime since you've bought your phone. Or, if you've made your first call before the 1st August 2001.
To get the ball rolling, just send us an email and let us know the following info:
· Your name and address
· The make and model of your phone
· Your Virgin Mobile phone number
· Your phone's IMEI number - that's the number that appears when you type *#06# into your phone.
· And finally, another number that we can reach you on.
When we have these details we'll be able to send your unlock code to you within 7 days. In some cases we may need to contact the manufacturer of your phone to get hold of your unlock code. If this happens you'll receive it within 30 days.
If you have any questions along the way, just give the team a call on 789 from your Virgin Mobile phone, or 0845 6000 789 from a landline and we'll help you out.0 -
Any one know if the same if true if you are on a contract with Virgin ?
I pay £30 for my bundle every month.0 -
I think on a virgin contract they will release the unlock code when the contract is at an end.0

I enquired about that with Virgin Customer Services and they did say that after the first £30 on the contract was spent an unlock code could be requested. I never took out a contract though so couldn't verify. Why don't you just send them an email to confirm?0 -
I disagree.
You need to spend £30 on the credit, not use £30 worth of credit.
Hi there,
If I use a dualsim device on a Virgin handset, will the credit on both simcards count toward the minimum spending ON THE PHONE, as they said on their webiste, i.e, one sim w/10 pounds loaded, and the other, 20?
Is it possible? can I request them to unlock if I have two simcards with total credit LOADED 30 pounds, not yet spent?
Thanks,0
