With trousers (particularly for a boy) go for the cheapest and buy *lots* of them, expecting them to wear out quickly. My son's always end up frayed around the ankle, but as they only cost about £2 it doesn't matter so much.

I find Tesco polo shirts shrink terribly in the wash. I prefer Asda's for girls summer dresses, skirts and trousers, but get all my DS trousers from BHS as he is on the chubby side.

I found Asda trousers/skirts (but not the cheapest type) were great, but when it comes to polo shirt, Asda and Tesco were terrible, shrank after only a few washes, Sainsbury were a bit better, but still didn't make it a whole season. M&S are fantastic, last the full season staying almost in the exact same shape, and my youngest has been able to wear my eldest from the previous year all the way through the second season. I have found it so much worth spending the extra £3 or £4 per pack.

    Hi

I've always got my sons trousers from BHS. They offer the adjustable waist and they last the year.

I've always bought uniform from M&S, they seem to fit my son really well. It's always washed well and barring skidding across the playground, has always looked as good as new.

I don't find supermarket uniforms very good, they are poor quality and do not look very nice. Last year I shopped around and between M&S and BHS managed to buy much nicer uniforms for the same price as George in Asda. In M&S I paid only £3.50 for her PE daps (not reduced). I also managed to pick up a school pinafore for £4 in debenhams!

I buy the white polo shirts from Asda. They are good quality, wash well and stay in good condition. Trousers I always buy from M&S. They have a special offer on at the moment, with two pairs of trousers for £7 or £9 depending on the sizes you are buying. They also wash well and last a long time.

My boys go to one of those schools that insist you buy their jumpers with the school logo on them so I cant take advantage of the good value jumpers they do in all the major supermarkets. Check with the childs school though because many now sell the logo patch seperately for parents to sew on to an appropriately coloured jumper/cardigan of their choice. It often works out much cheaper that way. I think schools should be doing all they can to ensure school uniforms are reasonably priced.

I forgot Matalan, I bought my dd a school cardigan for £1.75 at Matalan in the sale and summer dresses for £2.50 each. She has had them both 18 months and still in excellent condition

I bought some shirts from asda and after a few washes they started to look very old & tatty
