From experience I'd say go to Horsley Park, avoid Uplands House.

I can recommend Barony Castle. Stayed there about a year ago and it was lovely!

I like the way that they have limitless free teas/coffee/biscuits/fruit etc and free newspapers. I know that you can get this in your room but it was much more sociable and relaxing to sit in a lounge having a leisurely drink and perusing the paper.

I agree - very little up north.

A few are convenient for Legoland, Chessington or Thorpe Park and much cheaper than the usual stop over places.

We've been to three DeVere's. Two up north and Carden Park in Cheshire. Hated Carded Park, totally pretentious for what it was and sickeningly overrpriced in the bar but Slaley Hall and Barony Castle were both great. Barony is near Edinburgh too so you can visit on your way there or back. Absolutely stunning countryside as you cross the borders. Worth going to Barony for that alone!
I'll have some cheese please, bob.

What are the restaurant prices like at Barony Castle for an evening meal? Tripadvisor reviews only seem to mention high wine prices but, as we don't drink, that isn't an issue for us.

I second that, Horsley Park is in lovely parkland. Good location for visiting National Trust Polesden Lacey, Clandon Park and not too far to Chessington World of Adventures.

The De Vere Venues Autumn Sale starts on Thursday @ 10am for 24hours. I managed to get a family room for £19 for a saturday night earlier in the year so will def be having a look :j

I can't add links but if you go to the De Vere website and look at Offers its about half way down the page.
