Always buy Japanese (except Nissan)...

And who owns Nissan? Renault! The time was when Nissans were a byword for reliability.
I can only say that, from my own experience and that of friends and relatives, the survey is broadly right. The odd anomaly is that Kia and Hyundai are the same company, so why should there be the claimed disparity in their reliability rates is a puzzle.0 -

You can put me down for all of those, in preference to leaving me stranded at the side of the road !0 -
i am thinking of an Avensis
! £10k - £14k. Any recommendations/deals?!

I had a Suzuki Baleno as my first car and ran it into the ground.
Second car is a Skoda Fabia; it's had £800 of work in 2 years, pulls to the left sharply when driving and the power steering turns off and on randomly.
I want a Prius next.
I had a brand new fabia (2011 plate) and it pulled to the left VERY badly.. they could never find the cause!0 -
Loved our Nissan Sunny.. It was my dad's from new, then passed on to us when we had a car crisis and he was ready to change his (we paid him the £700 the dealer had offered as p/ex). It lasted us for years and its next home was found via Auto trader, to a very happy family from Brum who picked it up for £400, after we'd run it into the ground, several years later.
The other (lovely) Japanese car we had was the MIL's Honda Concerto - she charged us the full whack, but it was fab, drove it and drove it and drove it, till it eventually died suddenly on September evening and I had to leave it by the side of the road and hitch a lift home, 8 miles from civilisation. THAT was a memorable evening.
Even, then, we got it towed home, and, thanks to scrappage, got a great deal on a new car! That's what I love, a car that's polite enough to last while you need it, then die at just the right time. (Both the Sunny and the Concerto got replaced with Euro cars, which have also been fab, for what it's worth!)Reason for edit? Can spell, can't type!0 -
Loved the original, boring, but reliable moniker of all things jap, but, apart from the obvious faults before you buy it, Lexus, everything needs the caveat emptor badge.
Anyone want to buy my blown HG Itchy!!!!!, or the two Civics with the chocolate gearboxes?0 -
The word was !!!!!, or nice cat if you prefer.0

I;d love to own a mazda or honda, but the problem is a lot of the parts need to be imported and manay of the japanese cars ARE imported.
This makes insurace a little more expensive.
But I agree with the sentiment, always buy Japanese or German0 -
I love Toyotas, but until recently they haven't released any exciting and interesting models other than the IQ for over 10 years! (Prius is neither, and the honda one was better anyway imo
)
Celica looks fantastic, and can't wait for the new supra.0 -
My first car was a Nissan Sunny!
Head gasket went at 120k, the same mileage my next car (a Citroen) got to before death.
In conclusion, Nissans are about as reliable as French cars :-)0
