Porridge is lovely with a handlful of sultanas, a slug of Carnation evaporated milk and a spoonful of honey! Keeps me going until lunchtime with no need to raid the treats box!

In no particular order apart from today is thai yellow duck curry (leftover duck - rubber duck LOL;))
then the other family members chose one meal each for the rest of the weekdays, and we got pesto chicken, sausagey omelette (thanks 5 y o ds :)), pizza and spaghetti bolognese.
And there's me wanting to be more creative. I have done this for a couple of weeks now because I have been fed up of deciding all this myself. If they dont like anything they can blame each other!

How did the porridge go, Thriftlady?
Haven't tried it yet - had some leftover mash to use up so I made potato cakes with bacon (fried them in the bacon fat -yum)- actually the kids ate them all :D

Hi! How economical do you find your meat box and where do you get it from? Please!

Hi mioliere - it's all a big experiment at the moment. Our first delivery is due on Thursday and it's from Devon Rose (https://www.devonrose.com). Will let you know how I find it!

Most of the time it's just three of us so I figured that their £34 box every fortnight might be OK. We like our fish as well and I'm also trying to include more veggie meals to cut down on overall cost.

I've printed my plan out this week and stuck it on the fridge. Now everyone has read it I can't deviate from it :D Also it stops the endless 'what's for tea?' questions which drive me up the wall ;)

Well, I just don't think I'm cut out for menu planning. I keep trying but it isn't working :wall:

For example, today I realised I had a chunk of salami and half a carton of cream in the fridge that needed using up. Now, normally I'd have no trouble in incorporating them into a meal (quiche, Spanish omelette, pasta sauce for instance). But, because I've got my plan on the fridge and it says 'egg and chips' I feel I can't deviate from it, especially as the boys were looking forward to it. So, what happens ? I eat most of the salami whilst getting tea  - I couldn't put it tomorrow's sarnies either because I'd done a plan for lunches too

My usual way of meal planning is to think 2-3 days ahead. I find I can make one meal roll into another more easily. So, roast chicken followed by chicken pie, followed by chicken & veg risotto. Then, I start again using up odds and ends (like the salami ).

And another thing :p why do I always forget that I hate frying eggs  Hot fat spitting at me, put the eggs in plus quite a bit of shell, one yolk disintegrates and they start exploding all over the pan, I start cursing ('mummy said a swear again'), the eggshells drip all over egg-allergic DD's beans

I should have gone with my instincts and made pasta with salami, peas and cream

I do love reading everyone's plan though :D
