Right - here goes my week
Breakfasts - porridge for me (tesco value) and HM raspberry puree from the glut last year, Mixed meusli & branflakes for DH and DS1, Oat crispies for DS2 (too young for meusli and too old for porridge - too much mess at opposite ends depending on which one he is given!!). Toast from HM bread
Lunch - sandwiches, HM soup, sardines on toast, whatever needs using up
 Suppers
Sunday - Roast leg of lamb (we get a lamb free every now and then as payment in kind for DH work)
Monday - Lamb shoulder stew (see above) in SC - eat 1/3 - freeze 2/3
Tuesday - Fish (free from Dad in Orkney), pesto, carrots & peas
Wednesday - Cauliflower & gogonzola soup, HM bread
Thursday - Rabbit stew & caraway dumplings (rabbit free from local chap who drops them on my doorstep in the middle of the night!)
Friday - Kedgeree - also caught & smoked by Dad
Saturday - Going to try Gingham's cabbage pie
So - what this has made me wonder is why on earth can't I stick to £200 supermarket budget when I buy veg from a separate budget and manage to blag most of my meat from local farmers/poachers? The supermarket challenge is about to start...
Also - picked my first wild garlic this morning and cooked it as I would creamed spinach - absolutely delicious!!Is it home time yet?0

Your menu is very inspiring Happyathome I'm especially jealous of your Orkney fish and free rabbits. Thanks for the idea of using fruit purees in porridge -I've got a stash of damson and quince puree in my freezer, might give that a go;) 0 I'm especially jealous of your Orkney fish and free rabbits. oooh, thriftlady - is that damson & quince mixed? I haven't manged to find any wild damsons up here yet, but my aunt in Yorkshire has found a quince that produces the most enormous fruit and she brings those up when she visits in November. If you are feeling very decadent (I make my porridge with water, so I kid myself it isn't so bad) you can swirl a bit of cream on the top of the porridge, too: too heavenly for words. Is it home time yet?0

No, not mixed I've got my own quince tree:j and come October I'm innundated with them. We don't get through the quince jelly before it's time to make more:rolleyes: I've got my own quince tree:j and come October I'm innundated with them. Mmmm... I've got some leftover cream.0

Hi! How economical do you find your meat box and where do you get it from? Please!Hi everyone!
I'm a long time lurker but have decided to join in the fun. I have been meal-planning for the last couple of months and I can't believe how much we have saved!
Next Thursday we're taking our first delivery of a fortnightly meat box - with the idea of eating less meat but of better quality. We're 2 adults, one teenager and another teen about twice a week. Here goes...
 Sunday
roast beef, pots, broccoli, parsnip and carrots
 Monday
beef stroganoff with mushrooms and rice
 Tuesday
Fish pie with broccoli and carrots
 Wednesday
Leek and mushroom pasta with garlic bread and salad
 Thursday
Morrocan chicken casserole with chickpeas and rice
 Friday
venison & pheasant sausages with potato and leek creamy bake
 Saturday
 Spaghetti marinara with salad
Lunches are usually sandwiches and soups. Breakfasts are cereal, porridge, toast, fruit.
A big thank you to everyone who posts here - I've been really inspired and hope I can help inspire someone else too!
