Thank you all very much for your replies. I have learnt the following
1. The pricing range is HUGE. People on here have posted everything from £0 to £15k
2. What you get for that price also varies greatly, I cant believe people have got venue, 3 course meals, reception drinks, dj, toastmaster for under 3k!. I can only assume that this is nowhere near London
3. I thought I was a good negotiator but clearly I am not that good!.
I spoke to the venue today, to be politely told that the quote doesnt include the tables and chairs??!!
I think this site has got me scared to spend money, I have almost become obsessed with sticking to my budget to the point where I now need to post on here to help me make decisions haha!!
Thats the "beauty "of weddings...they can cost as much or as little as you want to spend...the trick is to get the day that you want at the most competative price...or at least the price you are willing to pay....
Everyones desire and wish and indeed expectation of their wedding is different...and the person who spends the minimum is no less married than the person who spends the maximum...but where this board really helps brides I think is that everyone shares ideas of how to make their day individual and special to them, and there are a few "great searchers" on here who love the challenge of being shown a picture of something and helping eachother to find a suitable alternative.
It is about money saving, but its more about getting value for your money... its also a great place to vent flustrations or ask advice from those who are going through or have been through similar and ultimately its about you having the most wonderful wedding....and life together.frugal October...£41.82 of £40 food shopping spend for the 2 of us!
2017 toiletries challenge 179 out 145 in ...£18.64 spend0 -
My venue was £300 from 11am - 11pm.
I got married & had the reception in the same place. After the ceremony whilst having photos taken and guests having drinks they set out the tables and put the center pieces out & set up the cake as well.
I had a buffet meal which was £420 and the bar tab was £360, though the bar tab grew throughout the night to that as guests and family members ended up putting money on to it.
Had no dj, we set up a play list on our ipod and used the venues ipod dock. Even used the ipod for my wedding entrance music.
Can't believe though that mine is approaching being a year ago.Mummy to two girls: October 2013 and February 20160 -
Our venue was free, no hire charge, but with a minimum charge of £2000 which we'll be spending easily on food/booze etc..
When we were looking we found such a big variation.. We went to one place which quoted us £1800 for exclusive use of the grounds (sounded ok we thought) until they added there was an extra £4000 charge for the marquee! It was the sort of venue where you had to have te marquee!
I really dislike all the hidden extras.. Where you are quoted one price and then told it's extra for tables or a cake stand etc..! Add the word wedding to anything and it seems it gives license to double the price!0 -

We're paying £600 for a National Trust house for the ceremony then sole use of their gardens and barn for the reception. Includes flowers in the house but that's it. We did manage to get it for half price though so I think we've got a great deal

We have paid £ 1590 for the use of a Masonic Lodge (we're not members).
This price includes rental of the building, 3 course meal, drinks on arrival as well as half a bottle of wine per guest and toast drinks.
It also includes rental of the bar area and the price also includes the evening buffet.
The interior of the building is stunning with wood panelled walls, stained glass windows, impressive staircase etc. It's a 1928 building and is full of character.
Some masonic lodges are more modern and therefore lack character but it's an idea worth considering. No Unapproved or Personal links in signatures please - FT30
