    You could try and negotiate on the price, particularly if they are desperate for bookings

    Ours is for exclusive use of a lovely village hall from 2pm on Friday to midday Sunday, and it has 3 rooms including the main hall, a bar and kitchen - we have our own caterer and an outside bar coming in. It is £400 - we could have hired cheaper ones but it was just exactly right for what we wanted.

    Ours has cost us £2814.50. This includes:
    • arrival drinks for 90 (80 day guests),
    • fork buffet for 100 day guests (over catering),
    • dessert for 50 people,
    • combo table platters for 150 evening guests (190 evening guests),
    • 180 chair covers (not sure if we will definately have these as they are costing £495 but we can take them off closer to the date if needs be)
    • Corakge for 30 bottles of wine (for meal) and 12 bottles cava (for toast). We do have more wine and cava for if we need it but it may not need opening, if it does it's an extra £3.50 per bottle.
    • DJ from 7pm - 12am

    Ours is £2k for dinner, drinks and toast for 50 people, 80 for the evening with buffet, DJ Disco and honeymoon suite for the night.

    Just to give a perspective from the other side...my venue is costing over 15 grand. That includes food and drink and 5 bedrooms and various bits and pieces, but still...

    Our venue isn't very MSE, we're looking in the region of £6K for it. Thats for getting married there, arrival drinks, toasting drinks and meal drinks for 80, 3 course meal for 80, bridal suite and various bits and pieces.

    But it was the cheaper of the two venues that we loved. We do have cheaper venues in the area, but I wouldn't have been happy getting married there.
  • The venue hire for ours is £0.00 - good friends of ours have a golf/sports club venture near the village and we are having it there. They have also very kindly doing us a 'mates rates' buffet for 100!
  • I'm going to see two venues next week so can give you the price breakdowns for those:

    Venue number 1 (medieval merchants' hall, Grade 1 Listed Building) - £1,641 including hiring the venue from 3 PM to 12.30 AM, civil ceremony charge, use of the sound system and a log fire in the reception - we may not want that but as the wedding's in October it's likely to be a nice-to-have - plus VAT

    Venue number 2 (14th century listed building) - £2,300 including hiring the venue from 12 PM to 12.30 AM and sound system plus VAT - I'm going to check if that includes the civil ceremony charge when I go to see it)

    I should point out that neither of those includes catering, which we're expecting to cost around £7,000 - I'm aware that sounds like a lot but we're likely to have quite a big wedding and my dad will insist on paying for the bar - or rooms as neither venue is a hotel. Not particularly MSE I know but OH and I both had quite strong ideas about what we wanted and both these venues tick all the boxes.

    Ours was £600 and included toastmaster, flowers, table linen & cutlery, candelabras, background music & evening dj.
