how much did your venue cost

I hope you can help me decide on a venue, by telling me how much you have paid for your wedding venues? (to help me decide whether I am going over the top or whether what i could be paying is average!).
Background:
I am trying to have an MSE wedding, and had looked at a number of community centre/village halls for our reception. Our budget was £500 (for 5pm - midnight), and we have seen quite a few in that price bracket which seem good enough. HOWEVER, whilst shopping last week i saw an advert for a Grade 2 listed building with special rates. I called them up and the lady was v v nice, she convinced me to come and have a look and the place was stunning, absolutely stunning, it's an old town hall and it currently being refurbished (will be ready by end of this week), and they want to get it booked up asap to start recouping their costs. Problem is, she has quoted £1500:eek::eek:
This is for exclusive use of the building ALL day, we can bring in our own caterers and own music. Now this is the first time in my wedding planning that my budget planning has seriously been tested. I have saved £500 on my wedding dress thanks to copplestone bridal and £100 on my invitations thanks to vistaprint. So could spend it, but thought I would ask you girlie's first to get an idea of what the average cost of a venue was
Thanks in advance,

Hi there, we paid £1550 for ours which includes the day food for 40 people, evening food for 75 people.I fell in love with the place as soon as i seen it and just had to have it.TBH i think its a brill price for our venue as some venues we thought about having were from £2500 upwards, the most expensive was £50000

My venue cost 18£ an hour. We've booked 6-12 and we've access to it from the night before ( Friday) to set up x so all in all £108
this includes exclusive use of the place including kitchen tables etc x My big fat eBay wedding £1200 budget! 1st September 2012!!

Ours is £108, though we've also booked a guest room at £80. We're doing the catering and will be paying the venue 50p per head which covers the cleanup costs.
We've booked the gig venue attached to the pub we first met in. The main reasons had nothing to do with the cost - its accessible for most of our guests, it has some really nice photo possibilities and has an area that will be perfect for a handfasting.0 -
Mine was £1000 all day access to the castle and the week leading up to it to drop things off. This was for 80 people only promblem was you had to use their caters who are quite expenisve but the place and services supplied are fantastic
