The Great Big Recession & Mountain Biking Thread!

To quote the late, great Lord Blackadder who could well have been talking about this thread:
While we're congratulating ourselves, I did a 50km bike ride today. Anyone else want to pat themselves on the back?
*I'm assuming this is the last post on this thread.
Odd that you're not posting this sort of a message as an addemdum to Graham Devon's triumphant posts all over the board?
"Yay, we're still in recession - bears win!"
Congrats on the 50k bike ride by the way. I did a 47 mile off-road mountain bike challenge with my mates recently, we raised over £2k for charity. http://www.idonohoe.com/mountian_bike9.htm
* Nope, this is the last one.0 -
I really can't understand why we needed another thread?
We all know.
Reno's a Financial genius who advises Warren Buffet.
He can turn water into wine, heal the sick and raise the dead.
In his spare time I believe he's running the Olympic 100m, and hopes to beat his PB of 4.2 secs0 -

I don't believe this for a minute, I'm sure renoman is always busy and has no spare time, only allocated time.Chuck Norris can kill two stones with one birdThe only time Chuck Norris was wrong was when he thought he had made a mistakeChuck Norris puts the "laughter" in "manslaughter".I've started running again, after several injuries had forced me to stop0 -

Just pockets of time between day trading and doing my job. By the way, everyone should pile in with PFD. This share has made me a mint in the past and after I bought back in yesterday, the only way is up.0 -

I don't do single shares anymore, although I have had my successes (Boots, IG Index, S&N) I have also in the past bought BT, Kingston communications and Railtrack. I only buy ftse trackers now.Chuck Norris can kill two stones with one birdThe only time Chuck Norris was wrong was when he thought he had made a mistakeChuck Norris puts the "laughter" in "manslaughter".I've started running again, after several injuries had forced me to stop0 -

Not really. This thread seems to be pretty lighthearted so I posted in that spirit. GrahamDevon's are usually more 'serious' shall we say (unkinder words could be used).RenovationMan wrote: »Congrats on the 50k bike ride by the way. That's a great ride. 80km is a big off road distance, pretty much the longest off road day I've done and my ride was basically flat rather than over some of the toughest riding in England. Chapeau RenovationMan.
Who were you riding for?0 -

Who were you riding for?
Were we riding for 'Unique' with our personal sponsorship and the Mountain rescue people organised & stewarded the event and they received donations via the application fee. Everyone's a winner.
We were exhausted by the end of the ride, it doesn't look it on those pics but some of the climbs were heartbreakers.
We all had a great sense of achievement by finishing the ride, and the fact we raised quite a bit for charity was brilliant.0 -

Exhausted wouldn't begin to describe it!!! I know the area a bit as my Dad was raised not too far from there, right up on top of the moors. In fact he left most of his teeth in a dry stone wall near there while riding his bike to the shop to get it fixed.
Two grand is pretty good going too and clearly the mountain rescue is a great cause as Unique seems to be too.
This is my next biggie:

It'll be my second crack at it, I failed after 100kms or so quitting at the top of Hotham Heights having started at Falls Creek. The part of the climb after the small descent at Pass Dargo Rd is brutal. 20% perhaps?0 -

That looks amazing, and one I'd definitely prefer to do clockwise instead of anti-clockwise as it is described on the map. I'd much rather be flying down from falls creek to Bogong than climbing (or carrying my bike) up it.
Good luck with it. I tried and failed to cycle the Pennine Bridleway from the Mary Townely loop (the 47 mile loop we completed) down to Matlock which covers 73 miles (http://www.nationaltrail.co.uk/trail.asp?PageId=39). We'll have another go at it one day.0
