I am so jealous of you lot. My first Mirena had apparently moved and they couldn't find the strings. I had to go to the hospital to have it removed, sat in chair in those stirrup things and with local anaesthetic injected (yes, needle!!) 'down there'. Am hoping removal of current one will be more straightforward so glad to hear you all say it's generally pain-free!

When I had mine in my Dr showed me how to crouch down and "reach up" to feel the threads as if it moves you can end up with complications like eptopic pregnancy or cervical damage.

I had been shown and had 2 scans at different times to check it was all OK. They did warn me that it might cause some difficulties for removal but as it was causing no problems with it in there seemed no point removing it early. They said it was just one of those things that can happen sometimes and seems to be have been made worse by the threads having been cut too short at the time of insertion. Hopefully just a one-off fluke that won't repeat next time

I had mine out at the end of January this year, doctor just told me to cough, she pulled and there it was! Slight pinch, but I've had 2 kids already so I think it is less painful than it would otherwise be. My due date is 19th November :-) Good luck! And have a lovely wedding :-)

I had mine removed after 5 years at the same time as a smear test. Didn't even feel the doctor take it out! I became pregnant about 8 weeks later but unfortunately miscarried at 6 weeks (nothing to do with the coil - just one of those things). I'm now 16 weeks pregnant again (due in Jan) :)

    Hi everyone!
Just thought I would pop in to update u all. Had my coil removed today & it was a doddle!
Dr was asking me abt my honeymoon, then I felt her tug & that was it. Couldn't believe it!
I had myself geared up for it to be horrific but it was not! No discomfort & very very slight spotting!
    Such a relief :-)

Don't know if you've had a baby, but once you've had an internal examination (with a midwifes hand !) whilst in labour, a needle "down there" won't bother you in the slightest !

I didn't want to mention the Episiotomy scissors either !

Or the stitches afterwards, or the salt baths and the rubber ring with the frozen peas in the middle.

I ended up with a spinal and huge episiotomy, but didn't feel a thing. Was fine with the stitches, although what happened when they took out the plugs and let me stand up was worthy of a horror movie. :rotfl:
