Mirena coil removal & trying for a baby

Hi
Just on for some advice
I am getting married soon & will be getting the mirena coil removed. I will have had it in almost 3 years.
Just wondering if anyone has had it removed, and if so, was it much worse than getting it put in?
I dont have kids, so cant compare it to childbirth!
Also how quickly did you fall pregnant once it was removed?
Thanks in advance & I hope I've posted this in the right place

Not too bad really, bit like a smear test. you will get period like pains afterwards and bled for a few days. You will find it may take a mnth or so and then your periods will return to normal.0

thanks for your reply.
I am thinking about the best time to get it removed.
I have my honeymoon 4 weeks after my wedding, so might wait until after the honeymoon - i don't want to be stuck with period cramps etc while away.
Or maybe I am just looking to far into this lol!0 -
It's better having it removed than fitted, I felt a bit of a tugging sensation when they took it out and was a bit crampy for a few days and had some light bleeding.
I got pregnant within 6 weeks of having it removed :jAccept your past without regret, handle your present with confidence and face your future without fear0 -
Thanks Penny
I actually think I would die if it happened that quickly!
Did you have much bleeding/discomfort after you had it removed? Or did your cycle just return to normal?0 -
Can't help with the mirena as no experience of that but just wanted to say that there's a fab TTC thread on here with some very knowledgeable ladies on. It's really supportive too so if you ever fancy a TTC chat come and find us!
Ooh and good luck with the wedding

Removal hurts much less than insertion - my dr asked me to cough, she tugged and there it was!
I got pregnant 2 cycles after I had it removed - I had a 'withdrawal' bleed about 2 weeks after I'd had it taken out, 2 proper periods and then I got my BFP.
I'd leave it until after your honeymoon, or do it a while before the wedding - you need to have a chance for it to settle and your cycles to sort themselves out.
Good luck!0 -
Thanks Sa ra
What is BFP?
I get married in less than 2 weeks so will probably leave it until after honeymoon to be on safe side :-)0 -
I have a mirena but its my first so dont know about the removal but I do know a friend who had 2 in a row and got pregnant within 4 weeks of having the second one removed. I have read apparently you are more likely to concieve quickly after a coil removal than any other time.0

Had mine out more than 4 months ago. It was a copper coil. Still waiting BFP

I had my Mirena out (which doesn't hurt, I just felt a wierd 'tugging' sensation) & never made it to my first period after. I conceived within 2 weeks :rotfl:"Beauty is in the eye of the beholder and it may be necessary from time to time to give a stupid or misinformed beholder a black eye."...Miss piggy0
