What is BFP?
I get married in less than 2 weeks so will probably leave it until after honeymoon to be on safe side :-)
BFP = Big Fat Positive.
When you have it out, have a chat with the ladies on the TTC thread - they're knowledgeable and very supportive (and generally lovely) for this process because it can become a bit all consuming after a while!0 -
thanks everyone.
you have all been very helpful.
if i do get it out in september, should I start taking folic acid & vitamins etc now, just to be on the safe side?0 -
Ive had 3. There is usually a slight nipping sensation as it comes out lasting less than a second. Not very pleasant given the location but so short lived as not to be worth stressing about.
Took 18 months to conceive first time I had one removed, and the first cycle after the third one was removed. The second one was replaced by the third so wasn't actually trying to conceive that time. Your hormones should revert to normal immediately after it is removed so the length of time it will take you to conceive will depend on how fertile you are as a couple, rather than anything related to your mirena.0 -
It's much easier and less painful having it removed than inserted.0

I would say yes, get yourself all ready, just incase you get pregnant really quickly.
I would defo wait until after your honeymoon, with it still in you know that you're not going to have a period when you don't want it and you can enjoy yourself. If you have it out before there's always that niggling thought at the back of your mind that you just might ge preggers so you might not be so relaxed about drinking and what you eat, IYSWIM.Accept your past without regret, handle your present with confidence and face your future without fear0 -
I can't say it hurt too much getting it in, in the first place, but my GP was a qualified gynae who did 2 days at the hospital and 3 days at the surgery (which was owned by her husband also a GP).
It was nothing really having it out, a bit of light period type bleeding and cramping for a few days and then when I had one period and was pregnant straight away so I think you may be better to wait until after the wedding (or get it done now and use other forms of contraception until the wedding night). Otherwise you may spend your honeymoon throwing up lol.

mine was fine first time i had it removed i had nothing no bleeding no pain and fell pregnant that night
the second time (put in after LO was born) bled a little cramps for about a day but it did take 4 months to get pregnant - we werent seriously trying it was more of a if it happens its brill if it doesnt so be itThe only people I have to answer to are my beautiful babies aged 8 and 50 -
I haven't tried for a baby following removal so I can't comment on that but as has been said it really is much less painful getting it removed than it was having it put in.
I've had 3 coils removed (2 normal and 1 mirena) and each time I've barely noticed the removal whereas I find the insertion very difficult.
good luck

I am so jealous of you lot. My first Mirena had apparently moved and they couldn't find the strings. I had to go to the hospital to have it removed, sat in chair in those stirrup things and with local anaesthetic injected (yes, needle!!) 'down there'. Am hoping removal of current one will be more straightforward so glad to hear you all say it's generally pain-free!0

I had mine removed & didn't feel a thing (although I'd had one baby by then).
I was pregnant 3 weeks later, no bleeding at all (was rather shocked lol).Smile and be happy, things can usually get worse!0
