Briefly asked the boss today about whether anyone was leaving the company (reorganisation) who has a company car. He didn't think so as it's mainly our section that have them and we haven't really been affected by the reorganisation.

He then uttered those much repeated words 'I don't think we are doing company cars anymore anyway' 'I need to have a look at the policy'.
I said 'The car policy says we are' (I know they are trying not to).
This company seems to get quite a lot out of me at a higher level than I am being paid to, the concept of getting 'something' back would be nice. On this evidence it will remain a concept though rather than reality!

I wonder at what point I should start looking for a new job?

That is always a tough question ;)

When you are not enjoying it or when you feel you are being taken for granted or over looked for promotion maybe?

But make sure you have another one to go to, I remember how tough it was finding this one!

Thanks Maty. There's no way I would go without something better to go to. They could buy a lot of loyalty from me with a car...if they decide they can't do that when they were discussing doing it last Christmas it makes me question whether they are serious when they are telling me what a great job I am doing.

An awful lot of places do car allowances now rather than giving you a car. Would that work or would the money get swollen up paying debts?

It's more the irritation Maty of them having a policy that says they do it, me being a prime candidate for it, being surrounded by people in the office with company cars who are not covering half the country in their job and HR being reluctant to do it.

Plus being graded as an officer rather than a manager when much of what I am doing in manager level.

HR are going to say they don't want to set a precedent...unfortunately I'm the only person in the company doing my job so my job IS a precedent.

    GRRRRR

take it further Butti, if it's company policy and you can justify why you should have one when others do and don't travel as much as you do, i think they don't have a leg to stand on.

I was to be paying my mortgage for about 15 years. I am now paying it for 22!!!!!

However this will become somewhat irrelevent when I sell my house and pay it off. Has reduced my payments from £405 to £291 which will really help in the short term. Pay also goes up this month by about £100 a month.
