I am fairly posh....for a Geordie.
I can see what they are doing with the drawing, it helps you see how things are put together. Very useful for a future surveyor. I'm not a surveyor!Debt LBM (08/09) £11,641. DEBT FREE APRIL 2021.

It's not whether it's going to be useful to you in the future, but how painful it is in the present.
I did Economic History at undergraduate level - do I look like I have the slightest interest in the history of the canals? But I did it because it wasn't dire. Have I ever used it in anger?
:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
I did draw the line at doing French Literature (in French) at undergraduate level. To me - that's dire. English Literature (in English) is dire to me.
Going back to the drawings, is it that they take too long, or that you hate them? What's involved?"Follow the money!" - Deepthroat (AKA William Mark Felt Sr - Associate Director of the FBI)

I think a bit of drawing would be good but its the requirement to draw floorplans AND cross sections AND site plans AND robust detail plans (close up sections) AND elevations.
AND
for each drawing set you add a 600 word report justifying your decisions
AND EACH drawing has a note collumn where you detail the strength of the. concrete, steel, cement and quotr the British Standards and Building Regulations
So easy peasy and really quick to pump out!!!
Helping understand how buildings are built will be useful but it is very painful at the mo. Everyone around me in class is training to be a surveyor. Not me!Debt LBM (08/09) £11,641. DEBT FREE APRIL 2021.

Does seem a fair bit of work in that, especially if you can't drive a CAD program efficiently. Would also seem to be a bit of a grind if you're not interested in that sort of thing.Helping understand how buildings are built will be useful but it is very painful at the mo. How buildings are designed, and how they are built are not quite the same thing.
Is the rest of the syllabus more appropriate for you?"Follow the money!" - Deepthroat (AKA William Mark Felt Sr - Associate Director of the FBI)

Hi Butti - I just nipped over to have a read at your diary as you post such supportive things on my thread - and now instead of being distracted from writting my assignment by Jeremy Kyle I am now engrossed in reading your journey!
At least I have moved myself from the couch into the study to do it! which is one (very small!) step closer to doing some actual work!0 -

We don't get to do it with helpful things like CAD. Ours is all by hand :eek::eek::eek::eek:and writing notes by hand.
Going to do my filing and tidying bedroom this afternoon.
Have booked my nights accommodation for Boxing Day (£50 - don't have to pay it until I am there) Invited to my brother's Christmas day, booted out on Boxing Day (Aren't families great!;)
Now have to establish who wants to see me between Christmas and New Year!Debt LBM (08/09) £11,641. DEBT FREE APRIL 2021.

Wow.
I did technical drawing with pencils at school 3 decades ago - and reasonably priced CAD was coming in *then*. I did some more drawing with pencils just before the millennium - and it was an antiquated action akin to walking in front of a car with a flag. CAD was available, and we did use it, we just had to know how to drive a drawing board because CAD might be mentioned in the Second Coming as a sin against God.
Or something.
For this day and age, it's shocking. With Google SketchUp available for free - there really is no excuse for getting people to do drawings by pencil.Have booked my nights accommodation for Boxing Day (£50 - don't have to pay it until I am there) Invited to my brother's Christmas day, booted out on Boxing Day (Aren't families great!;)
No, that's a bit crap TBH.Now have to establish who wants to see me between Christmas and New Year!
