Couldn't agree more. I am one of the 25m Santander customers (current account / ISA / esaver) and I do not find them any worse than any of the other banks I have accounts with (FD, Lloyds, Nationwide, Halifax, HSBC, Natwest).
I can only comment on positive balances though - I never use the overdraft Santander gave me, and I never had a loan with them.0 -
I hate santander but sometimes they have been good to me but mostly bad
There are however so many Santander branches within walking distance in the city centre adding on the takeover will make their presence even more noticable

I currently bank with barclays and am happy with them, i just want to open another bank account for my bills eg mobile, sky etc.
I applied for santander everyday current account and they said they will get back to me, after 3days i got an email that i have been approved and also open ISA 5 for me.
A week or so later, i received my card, pin, internet banking etc.
about 3weeks later i was trying to transfer £10 from my barclays to my new santander but i was surprised the payment was returned. i called Santander Customer service who told me you no longer have account with us and we cant tell you the reason.
not knowing that all my bills has been transfered from barclays as i said i want to switch when i applied but i was waiting for a form that i need to fill to authorised them.
I just keep receiving letters from my service provider that they are unable to take payment from barclays all direct debit cancelled lot of charges.
A letter turned up last week from santander we have completed all your switch and just fill the form, i called them again usual Indian call center you no longer have an account with us check your credit file. I checked 3CRA nothing disturbing.
Today i just received a cheque book from them, i dont even bother to call them. i will just shred it.
Santander are nothing but a cowboy, they suppose to be a daily collector not a bank. dont go near them they will just mess you up.
I have banked with them for years. I know they do not have the best rankings for service but speak as I find they are good. Also if you go into a branch to get something done they do it efficiently. Main criticism from me is the high pressure sales techniques if you wander into a branch to use a machine.
When I converted a POA account to Santander recently (a similar transfer to the OPs) all went very well. I can only observe that if the OP explained what he wanted to the staff using the same communications skills he demonstrates in the above post, maybe they just did not understand him/her.Few people are capable of expressing with equanimity opinions which differ from the prejudices of their social environment. Fantastic interest rates, compared to other major high street banks.0

I have accounts with Santander, Halifax, FD and Nationwide to take advantage of various offers/rates.
Although I have found they all make mistakes, Santander have by far the worse phone customer service (in my experience). I don't think I have every had an issue resolved with one phone call, which can be very tiresome but worth it for the money they give away compared to other banks
I certainly don't believe that the "bad workman blames his tools" is relevant in all scenarios. I manage my accounts very well and the vast majority of problems I have had have been the banks error and not me.0
