My Gf currently bank with barclays and she is happy with them, she just want to open another bank account for bills eg mobile, sky etc.

she applied for santander everyday current account and they said they will get back to her, after 3days she got an email that she has been approved and also open ISA 5 for her.

A week or so later, she received card, pin, internet banking etc.

about 3weeks later she was trying to transfer £10 from her barclays to her new santander but was surprised the payment was returned. she called Santander Customer service who told her you no longer have account with us and we cant tell you the reason.

not knowing that all her bills has been transfered from barclays as she said she want to switch when applied but was waiting for a form that need to be filled to authorised them.

she just keep receiving letters from her service provider that they are unable to take payment from barclays all direct debit cancelled lot of charges.

A letter turned up last week from santander we have completed all your switch and just fill the form, she called them again usual Indian call center you no longer have an account with us check your credit file. I checked 3CRA nothing disturbing.

Today she just received a cheque book from them, dont even bother to call them. will just shred it.

Santander are nothing but a cowboy, they suppose to be a daily collector not a bank. dont go near them they will just mess you up.

Ok, thanks.................. except I've had a current account with them for years and never had a single problem. Go figure.

Basically, everyone just make your choice as you see fit.

I have to agree, terrible service, they can't even pay their own direct debits from their current accounts to their cards AND then call you saying you have missed a paymemt, total shambles, they sent me huge boxes of flowers and all sorts but still couldn't do basic transactions

I am also inclined to agree. I hate Santander and hope they go bust!

I hate everything, the logo looks like a piece of poo with steam coming off it!

I hate there online banking and stupid driven to do better slogan. Driven to p1ss me off more like it!

I hate that they have a branch on every single road in every single street in a city centre ... 1 or 2 per city is enough!!

I hate the massive enormous pads they have in branch it takes up all the counter.

I hate that the staff sit so far back behind the counter there should be a different time zone between us!

I hate the attitude of call centre staff.

If it had an ignore button I would use it!

If I had a large bargepole, which I don't, I wouldn't even think about touching Santander with it... :)

  • A lot of love in the room for SANTANDER again, If people managed their own money and bank accounts properly there would be no need to blame your bank when things go wrong.

A bad workmen blames his tools, the financially incapable blame their bank.

I've had a bills account with Santander for about 5 years now, no problems and internet banking very good, plus in our town centre there are 2 branches to choose from.

    Go figure

I totally agree, since Abbey was taken over by Santander the business just went downhill - and fast!!

I wondered whether they act the same way in Spain??

My brother took a loan from them a year ago, but was threatened with being laid off a couple of months later. He made an agreement with them for reduced payments for a year (over the phone) and he confirmed this in writing to to them. They have ignored this and have sent him threatening letters and transferred it to a debt collection agency, even after an official complaint was raised (and Santander replied saying they could not resolve it) and the matter referred to the Financial Ombudsman Service (another joke outfit!). His perfect credit rating is now totally ruined-he even has a mortgage with Santander which is upto date!! Once anything gets into their 'Collections Department', nobody else within Santander can deal with you.!! The 'Collections Department' of Santander seems to be an offshoot of the 'Third Reich' - you do what they say, when they say and nothing 'in-between'!! They only hear what they want to hear!!

Me personally, I closed my account down with Santander 3 years ago, as it was one problem after another, albeit that after complaining I did get generous compensation payments!!

AVOID SANTANDER - AT ALL COST - MORE TROUBLE THAN THEY ARE WORTH!!

There should be a 'blacklist' website, whereby people can 'air their grievances' about companies!!

    This at the outset would serve two purposes;
    1) Warn others
    2) Make the companies do something about their services.

Non of their call centres are in India.. they're all UK based, you were probably speaking to someone from Leicester etc...

Thats crap- they opened your account and obviously something came to light on your file or whoever opened it, incorrectly opened it meaning it was closed. Either way the switch went forward and the cards etc still got sent automatically for something that was then closed and doesnt any longer exist.

Nice to see the usual Santander bashing :T
