So just had one of these guys come around, same story as 6 months ago and after spending £16 last time I searched online and found it was a scam. I politely said "No thanks" and decided to ring 101 and spoke to Hertfordshire Police who told me it was real and that they were young offenders who are part of a rehabilitation scheme so I'm a little confused but to be on the safe side I won't buy anything door to door anyway0

I agree with this person - we had a 6pm (dinner time) call from a young girl selling door to door on this scheme. The next day we were burgled whilst out at work and when police questioned neighbours routinely, there had been 2 males selling door to door at midday on that day. The girl had cased the house/cars/security etc and reported back, next day the males have seen no cars on the drive and broken in. We are alarmed with security lighting - they jimmied the wooden double glazed window open and cracked the frame. You can only slow them down the emergency window man told me. Just want to make everyone aware of this.0 -

I know this was posted last year but I wonder whether someone was mistaken in saying this -

"There is no statutory requirement for probation officers to offer training to offenders as door-to-door salesmen, nor does the National Offender Management Service (NOMS) engage with or support any programme of this nature.
Although NOMS has received complaints from members of the public approached by people selling door-to-door, who claim to be ex-offenders engaged in a rehabilitation programme, offenders subject to post custodial licences are only permitted to undertake employment which is approved by their offender manager and it is very unlikely that permission would be given to undertake employment of this nature."0 -
Where I used to live it was the local junkies who would go robbing and sell things door to door. Everyone knew who they were though, and if you didn't it wasn't hard to see what was going on. Quite glad I live somewhere a bit nicer now where not so much of this stuff goes on!
I will keep an eye out for people claiming to be on probation.
I get more annoyed with the charity people... By all means I can find some change but no, I won't sign up to a direct debit on my doorstep!Mum of several with a twisted sense of humour and a laundry obsession:o

Ive just had these guys knocking. Very charming young man. When I said that I didnt have cash he said I could write a cheque to his youth worker! He also said he was an ex-offender, wants to go to college or join the army and was dyslexic. I resisted his sales techniques.A minute at the till, a lifetime on the bill.
Nothing tastes as good as being slim feels.

We have had these over the years, usually claiming to be on a scheme from Middlesborough, but normally polite enough even when refused, but today my wife was in the garden when two lads approached her over the garden gate. When she declined to buy some overpriced kitchen scourers one of the lads became verbally abusive so we called the police. Unfortunately they were long gone but clearly something to be wary of in the future.0

I have had maybe a dozen of these over the last 25 years at two addresses at opposite ends of the country and, as far as I can recall, they have all had accents that would place them in NE England. You can pick your friends and you can pick your nose but you can't pick your friend's nose.0 -
Just had a girl come to the door at 7.30pm selling stuff. She was fairly polite to start off with but when I stopped her mid-speech, she became antagonistic about not being given a chance. We haven't had them come around for a while and they are usually male. In the past I bought stuff from them spending nearly £30 on poor quality cloths and dusters, although this was a long time ago. However, after this experience, I really thought that there may be consequences. From now on they will be turned away and a sticker put on the door.0

I wonder why a thread from years ago has been resurrected?0

If you look at some of the other posts in the thread, they are just random one-off posts like the ones from kanga2 & Rockyroller.
I don't see anything suspicious in it.0
