And in a way it is still the same thing about what I was saying about being desperate or hard up...if he wasn't desperate and things weren't bad in his life he wouldn't be involved with a gang anyway....so I still don't feel bad about that £5.0

Ring both Trading Standards and the police non-emergency number. £5 may not be much to you but it is to a lot of people
If they can pick up the gang master, it will also help the young man and his fellow workers. If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing0 -
Well then, I'm glad I helped towards stopping him getting in trouble! And in a way it is still the same thing about what I was saying about being desperate or hard up...if he wasn't desperate and things weren't bad in his life he wouldn't be involved with a gang anyway....so I still don't feel bad about that £5.
But you have also helped the con to work and so more young people will get pulled into it and other, often vulnerable, people will have these conmen turning up on their doorsteps.0 -
Has anyone else had these come to the door?
Yes, had these callers in two different counties - maybe 3 times over 6 years. The lads appeared to be polite and sincere - I've bought a token dish cloth on two occasions, simply because they were very polite and ready to take "no" for an answer i.e. already moving on before I changed my mind. Whatever act it is, it's jolly good. The only callers around here who are definitely both legit and wondrously polite are the local politician and the local Jehovah's Witnesses (that sort of zeal is hard to fake). And, of course, they are doing so for ulterior motives.
I will bear in mind the revelation that these lads are part of a scam. Although, I have to say it's a bit surprising as it doesn't strike me as a very good "get rich quick" scheme. It must take forever to sell the stuff. They'd be faster getting these lads acting jobs and taking a slice of the commission!0 -
ooh what a toughy! It does scream scam but it's not going to make them millions is it?! Daisie I think you did a nice thing by giving the guy some water - whether he's a con man or not it's a humane thing to do
(ps: hope the wedding planning is coming along nicely) xxx
Life is too short not to love what you do.0 -
whether they are selling cloths or selling god they are told to go away either in a rude way or polite way depending my mood. I don't solicit either and don't want them in or near my home.0

i'd be scared he was sent to case my house...work out if I lived alone, look properly at the security on my doors etc.. I would try to step up your home security for a while and maybe use the automatic lights x:jBaby Boy born December 20120

It's possible, but he stood too far back from the door (to keep in the shade as it was so hot) to see anything in detail. We have automatic security lights on all sides of the house, at least three locks on each external door and an alarm....so hopefully even if he was 'casing the joint' there wouldn't be too much to worry about!0 -

You have to bear in mind that this person will get pennies for doing this. And if it is part of gang work then that leads to the worst of crimes - you name it from drugs to prostitute rings. Seriously. That's the kind of thing they get their money from - that and stuff like counterfeit goods (like your fake handbags etc.). Even worse than the fake goods markets is that with these household goods you are paying a fortune, not even getting a bargain.0 -
We get that where I live.
Always same guy, same backpack, different story. So far he has been on a rehabilitation scheme, a student, just left the army and dyslexic.0
