Back in mid-May we had an offer accepted on a property and then nothing happened for a few weeks while our vendors looked for somewhere to buy (we didn't want to start paying out fees only for them to decide they couldn't find anywhere and were staying put!) Around end-May they said they'd move into rented accommodation if necessary and we got the ball rolling. Aim being completion by 14th August (communicated/agreed with vendors).

In w/c 25th June they had an offer accepted (vacant property) and suddenly we were in a small chain we weren't expecting... while being nearly ready to exchange! We decided to aim for 8th August completion (again communicated/agreed with vendors).

Found out last week that they only received the draft contract around 16th July, and are waiting for Local Searches to come back (I think all other searches are complete), apparently they don't require a mortgage offer.

Sounds like we're still aiming for 8th August, but I dubious - is that an overly ambitious aim?? I want to start booking time off work and removal vans, etc... but don't feel I can yet!

Don't book anything unless you have exchanged. Until then it could still move.
We're now attempting a similar time scale but won't be moving straight away as renting and need to do some work on the house

We got our draft contracts on the same day and we're looking to complete on 2nd August

Our solicitor has described it as 'tight' but that doesn't mean it's not do-able. We've started packing up, just in case. Trouble is if it doesn't happen on that date we'll have to wait until the end of August!

Our vendors have started packing too... and most of our stuff never left boxes in the first place because we're renting at the moment and didn't have much storage / cupboards!

Plan B is to complete the week after, but I'll be away... and miss the most exciting bit :rotfl: The plus side being that the OH might sort the move while I'm away, so I'll come back living in a different house!

If you're aiming for 2nd then this gives me a bit more hope, but sounds like our vendors' vendors' solicitor is being slow. Will chase for an update through our solicitors and the estate agents tomorrow.

I really need to ring our sols to sort out appointment for signing and arrange sending all monies over (no mortgage and as it's from 2 accounts each, really don't want to do 2 x 2 x 2 CHAPS if we can avoid it)
Then, if I jump up and down and shout, who knows we might exchange by end of month. Vendors want to complete on a mid week. So who knows, might be this month too
  • We've sent back our signed contracts and the money is all transferred to the solicitors, so the only thing we have left to do our side it to arrange building insurance (our solicitor suggested doing it immediately, but who knows how long this could be delayed for... with us paying insurance for no good reason!)

Our vendors also want midweek, and Wednesday specifically... no sure why, maybe removals are cheaper on Wednesdays or family /friends are only available to help on Wednesdays??

Removals are probably busier friday/ saturday, as will motorways be now it's the holidays. They're moving nearly 200 miles so it's going to be a pack one day, deliver the next job.
We haven't signed yet as enquiries etc only sorted right at end of last week
  • Just found out that their local searches are back and their solicitor's got replied to enquiries they need to answer....

Sounds like we might be nearly there? (Although that's probably fingers crossed that the enquiries don't drag on!)

Got appointment to sign contracts on friday afternoon and a statement of the monies required (no mortgage) so going into bank and building society tomorrow. Looking to exchange on monday, probably complete the following week.
There are two bits from enquiries that were to follow and apparently haven't followed yet so they are being chased
  • Apparently they're now waiting for their mortgage offer (presumably the same one we were told they didn't need!)

If anyone has any ideas how we can get people to start talking dates, they'd be appreciated!! At this rate we're gonna be trying to book holidays and removal vans a week beforehand, which doesn't seem fair on employers and colleagues... and and expensive option for removals!

get your quotes for removals now, you generally don't need to give them an exact date for moving in order to get a quote.

As for getting them to talk completion dates, patience - I'm afraid!
