Dodgy Morphy Richards Kettle

Hi,
Just wanted to follow up on Breadpan-gate. I wrote to Morphy Richards' head office rather than continuing to email them. To recap, I had replaced the non stick breadpan from my ten year old breadmaker, only to have the same problem re-occur and make the breadpan unusable within 8 months of purchase. I got the address for the Mexborough office (online on their website), and exlplained in writing that the fault had occurred in less than 12 months with fairly infrequent use. I reiterated my rights under SoGA, namely that goods should last a reasonable length of time and be of satisfactory quality. I also pointed out that the cost to them (about £15) would be far less than the bad will it would generate if they didn't 'fess up and just replace it. At the end of my letter I cc'ed my local Citizens Advice Bureau and the Office of Fair Trading (you have to aim high). I gave them 14 days to respond. I got a letter by return of post apologising and informing me that on this occasion they would send me a replacement product free of charge. They did. So, it's probably worth following it up in a more formal letter (not email), outlining your statutory rights, cc'ing anyone you think sounds official, and just being persistent.0 -
I was interested to read about the leaking kettles, because we had the same problem. MR were very helpful and changed the 6 month old kettle for another model, because it was discontinued.
So, this morning, 4 months later, the replacement kettle had a stuck lid and was very difficult to open. The cover on the handle was loose just behind the lid hinge and I had to remove it in order to get the lid open. Again MR have agreed to replace it..............I'm beginning to wonder whether the replacement will be any better, or am I going to have to keep on getting replacements for the duration of the 2 year guarantee.
Product quality.......I don't think so.0
