    What a horrible situation

I agree that a letter needs to be sent to LL

Any time Mr Creepy visits, ask him to leave

Don't give any excuse such as "I am busy or about to go out" - that is what you would tell a friend and he is not a friend

If you feel you have to give him a reason, it is that you haven't been given notice of an inspection

Do you have community PCs around your area - might be worth a chat letting them know that he is not supposed to be at your address so they could act if they saw him anytime you didn't
You never know how far-reaching something good, that you may do or say today, may affect the lives of others tomorrow

Wow. What a fruitcake. I'd second what someone above said, and be in touch with the police personally. This bloke is not your landlord. A call to the police that there is a man in the back garden looking through the windows at your young daughter might put the willies up him a bit.

A leter to the LL first I think, but I would def be thinking about the police, this guy is a stalker and could potentially be worse

One of these for the back garden:

Don't forget to turn it off when you want to go out there though.

I know you said your locks are unique, but have you had a locksmith out to confirm whether or not they can be changed. If they can't be changed, maybe you could ask the LL about adding an extra lock for your own security (you'll have to make good when you leave), as you have concerns that someone else has the key. It will have the added benefit of extra security for the LL property, as well as for your belongings and safety.

Write your own letters, send them recorded delivery etc.

NO, NO, NO - never send anything to a LL or tenant by recorded delivery. How many times does this have to be explained here!

RD requires a signature - LL/T not at home, it sits in the sorting office awaiting their collection. LL/T cannot be arsed to get it, or does not see the little card the postie drops through the door, the letter is returned to sender after 14 days!!!!! Recorded delivery is not proof its arrived - if it is not signed for it never will!

Send all correspondence by normal first class post and keep a free proof of delivery from the PO. 1st class is deemed delivered 2 working days after posting.
  • Call the police next time he is round or go down there and make a police report. This is not acceptable, especially as it's upsetting your daughter.

That only applies to landlord who are individuals with relatively few properties.

It is better to post it three times from different post offices/boxes with the proof of delivery and the likelihood that it did not arrive is tiny.
Stop! Think. Read the small print. Trust nothing and assume that it is your responsibility. That way it rarely goes wrong.

Ummm, you don't think that is just a touch hysterical? Has the OP explained clearly that she just does not want this guy dropping by?
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?

I am definitely going to keep the diary/record of visits that was suggested, and get those blinds, and get my husband to draft a letter to the actual LL explaining that if this continues we will have to take this to a more legal level!

It's just so annoying, we are good tenants and just want to live in peace to enjoy our life and get on with working etc. My daughter wants to feel that when she is alone in the house she won't turn round to find a strange man watching her, and we all want to know that if we go out as a family our home won't be snooped around (yes, locks will be seen to by a locksmith asap, the ones I can't change the barrel on anyway).

I just want to feel this is home, to be able to relax and have a normal life. I pay my rent etc, I keep it very clean and tidy, we don't do anything antisocial, we own a successful business in the community, and we are nice people who don't want to get anyone on the wrong side of us but enough is enough!

yes we have, on each occasion my husband has asked for prior warning and explained that it may not be convenient for us or that either of us may be at work, but this man doesn't care. If we are out when he turns up he just takes the opportunity to have a good look about, last time he did this we came home to him staring in the kitchen window and my daughter had barricaded herself in her room terrified! She was in tears. She was too scared to even go to the loo or make a noise incase he knew she was alone in the house. He knows we don't want him doing it and why, but he thinks we can't stop him, which is why I needed advice on here, just to find out what could be done.

And you have all been wonderful

Cite this example in the letter to the LL- any sane person reading it would be mortified that someone acting on their behalf had behaved in such an unacceptable manner. Send the letter today.
