My hubbys also allergic to bananas, grapes, strawberries, and oranges, he loves them but they make his mouth and throat itchy, he doesn't eat alot of fruit or veg either, other than teh veg i put on his dinner plate, but he always has the option as we always have plenty in

Sounds like he might have Oral Allergy Syndrome, which is what I have. I can't eat tomatoes, garlic, cucumber, celery, certain types of lettuce, bananas or kiwi! Some of the reactions are minor and some are pretty bad, so I have cut out most of these foods. I also can't eat soya, oats or onion powder. Plus I am vegetarian. So I find finding recipes which don't contain any of these foods quite difficult. I usually have to adapt recipes, but sometimes I would have to get rid of the majority of the ingredients! I would appreciate any cheap meal suggestions or ingredients to try cooking with! Thanks :-)

I just wanted to say a huge thank you to everyone who has contributed to this thread - I have directed my sister here she is always in a crisis situation ( bad money management) and the recipes here might give her some ideas how to feed her family instead of crying all the time about having no food .

I'd get him to look into that but he doesn't really care he can eat most things so doesn't bother with the ones he can't, for ages i thought it was an excuse not to get veg :rotfl: he doesn't like salad so i have no idea if he's alergic to any of those since he never meantioned it.

That must be very restriciting, i use alot of garlic so he's def ok with it.

Robertsons mincemeat jars are just 20p now at MrA, might be able to work that in to the £7 somehow.

That would be cheaper than buying dried mixed fruit for my breakfast pancakes in my original £7 budget and shopping list (saving 44p that could be put towards buying more onions or even some carrots :) ).

Yeah it is difficult at times. There are very few ready made foods I can eat, so I make a lot from scratch. It's cheaper that way though so can't complain really :-)

@Butterfly Brain (it wouldn't let me quote you with it being my first post and all....)

Noooooo! Don't ignore newbies! I have been lurking for around a week now and reading this thread has really inspired me so much that I have become a registered user just so I can tell you so :)

I may be a little naive and very trusting but it shocks me that disingenuous people infiltrate forums to see how much further they can cut benefits.
I have just had to give up my job 3 months after returning from maternity leave as I cannot afford to work. My childcare costs completely consume my salary and that's just for 2 days of childcare and my partner looking after them for the other day. So, if you're reading this mister government I can tell you now your policies suck!

I'm a bit of a nightmare when it comes to food shopping and can quite easily spend a small fortune. I spend that much time in the supermarket that my 2 year old now cries her little heart out if we drive past the 'green supermarket' without stopping in  I'm making a concerted effort to quell my addiction so will continue to lurk and take notes.

Thank you all so much for helping virtual strangers in times of need. Keep up the good work :)

I've got quite into this meal planning now and I've have a bash at a three week system; the idea being slowly building up on basics such as stock cubes, curry powder and herbs etc. The hard part has been keeping it healthy and ensuring there's enough veg, vitamin E and omega 3 etc!
