    An owner doesnt need a licence but a trader does!

    I dont think anyopne on this subject is asking for flooring to be taken up to get it, but i expect a trader would unnecessarily so they could get at it!

    Surely this is all rests on the nature of the contract between the trade and the customer. Mine would have said something like "Remove old boiler, remove old pipes, install new boiler, install new pipes". Although I am not a lawyer, I would have thought that the above implies that the trade would dispose of the pipes e.g. selling as scrap. Of course if the pipes were worth more than the money paid by the home owner, then a court might argue that the contract was unfair, but that is not the case here.

    Where is the problem? :)

    I strongly doubt whether any scrap metal left in a skip would ever stay there long enough to get to the tip. It would be long gone before the skip had been picked up. A year or two ago I was fitting a new bathroom for my son and a couple of blokes with a Transit tipper asked if they could take the metal away. As there was not a lot of scrap we said they could, but I suspect that they would have had it anyway, if we had left it out.
    I can afford anything that I want.
    Just so long as I don't want much.

    How does making a separate pile automatically equate to trying to sell? Its not (unless you haven't told us everything) and all those decrying this situation as theft have made an assumption based on an assumption which is really rather dangerous.

    Now, I know he will get some money out of them but how much roughly and I want to negotiate with him to fit a downstairs toilet.
    If thats what he is planning on doing and your clearly written contract with him says he to dispose of all waste materials I don't understand your problem unless, as someone has already observed, you want your cake and eat it too.

    Cheers

    Exactly. Its the cost of a skip to register.

    So you're not a trader then?

    Our plumbers broke up a cast iron bath it nearly filled our Hippo bag. A truck appeared very soon and after asking politely they took the lot. I was delighted.

    Its usually the only way to get it out.

    Funny how the [STRIKE]!!!!!![/STRIKE] metals disposal executives can always manage to turn up within 30 microseconds of the stuff being put outside. Actually I find its a good way of getting rid of all the waste. Pile the bags of old tiles, plasterboard, bricks etc out the front so that its clear what you are doing and separately keep the metals out the back. When they say "any metals, pipework guv" the reply is "yes but only if you take that too". One or two may say no but one will come along soon that will do it. Saves the cost of the skip which is inevitably more than the return on the metals from the scrappy. Oh but make surte they have the waste carriers licence. If they flytip it the council can and will come after the owner of the property if they can trace them.

    Cheers

    Dear oh dear Eastender.

    WEhy don't you keep all this in a single post. It's too interesting to miss anything.

    But,

    As I see it as a rank amateur but someone who won't have the wool pulled over their eyes;

    You asked this guy to do a certain job.
    You didn't ask him the details.
    You expected him to remove all scrap from site

    What the hell has he done wrong???

    An anecdote from my experience;

    Only once employed a builder when work projects were sky high and I had no time but had a few bucks.

    He re roofed my bungalow, and sold the slates to a reclaimer, did I factor in that when I agreed to his price?
    No.
    And you didn't either.

    Sorry.

    PS, the next day the reclaimer returned the slates as they where Spanish and regarded as inferior.;)
    I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.

    Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)

    Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed

    I agree with cyclone's post above, you have employed a builder who doesn't speak english & you clearly don't trust & you are questioning every single thing he does, btw replacing your hall & through lounge ceiling is a max of 3 days work for 1 man (ripping down removing nails & re-plasterboarding) plus 1 day for a plasterer so i would think the bill would be no more than £1k (inc materials) not the £1.65k that you are being charged, i feel another thread coming up :rotfl:
    I'm only here while I wait for Corrie to start.

    You get no BS from me & if I think you are wrong I WILL tell you.

    Agree with cyclone's post too.
    Too many folk, especially on here, want their cake and eat it. Personally I hope it chokes 'em... I'd just love to see them in action at work just so I could turn the tables on 'em. Taste of one's own medicine etc.
