For goodness sake - I have insulted no-one. I have put down no-one - with the exception of Rugged Toast.
I made the remark about laziness directly to Rugged Toast and no-one else. I later apologised (when I had calmed down at the vitriol he had posted). I realised that my remark was totally inappropriate but I did at least have the good grace to apologise.
However, it was said to Rugged Toast and no-one else.
Rugged Toast has made some truly appalling remarks about Boomers, which if they had been aimed at any other group - he would be shot down in flames for.
I am not demanding respect from you.
The courtesy of a simple apology for the crass remark about older people not contributing to society would have been nice is all.
Not all retirees do voluntary work within their communities - of course not - but many do. Many give up their time and money to help out their immediate families. Some do both.
Re the Holier than Thou accusation.
I genuinely fail to see how, by pointing out that ordinary people cannot have it all, at least not all at once, makes me 'Holier than Thou". Choices have to made, priorities and goals have to be set. No-one can have their cake and eat it too.
If people want to enjoy their youth to the full spending all their money and time having fun that's perfectly ok. If people want to make some sacrifices so they can afford to buy a house then that's ok too.
However, it has to be pointed out that for most of us it is impossible to do both. There are a limited number of occupations that will pay sufficient salary to allow you to do both. It's simple maths.
Now how does this make me "Holier than Thou".
Just edited to add
I must close now - I'm off to do some voluntary work at the nursing home my husband resides in.
Now I admit that might make me sound "Holier than Thou."
(That's a joke by the way).0 -
You are a laugh, Toastie. Some of the remarks you have made about your fantasy hate objects - 'boomers' - are the most objectionable things I've seen on this forum. Indeed, had they been directed at an ethnic group they would probably have been actionable.
So I suggest you knock-off the whining about ad hominem attacks. It makes you look even more of a fool.
Oh I see, you're upset because you're a boomer, and most of the world at the moment is calling you part of the "selfish generation".
That must really irk you.
What a shame.0 -

Its been pointed out to you numerous times now that its impossible for the majority of younger people to do either.0 -

Oh come on rugged, who are you trying to kid?
You've made some decent points but they get lost in the Graham Devonesque emotive rhetoric. I wish you'd leave that sort of nonsense to Devon, you're too intelligent for all that.0 -

Are you sure about that? As my deposit was £27k and this was in London with an 85% LTV.0 -
You can now get the iPhone 4S free on certain contracts, so I expect more people to be able to afford to buy houses. We'll see another slump in house sales when the iPhone 5 comes out though.0

I would have to agree, it was only possible for me due to having 2 higher than avergae salaries in a cheap to buy area.pinkteapot wrote: »You can now get the iPhone 4S free on certain contracts, so I expect more people to be able to afford to buy houses.
