Olympic Lanes

I must admit to being baffled about the need for these lanes. Shirley the existence of the Olympic village next within walking distance to the Olympic park means that the majority of athletes don't have to be driven anywhere!
Unless it's just for the corporate bigwigs and their Coe-horts to be chauffeured between plush Mayfair hotels and corporate boxes at the stadium.

Not necessarily. For example, the US track and field teams are based in Birmingham, not London.
And don't call me Shirley

According to the daily mail (so will probably be wrong) the specially made sat navs to make use of the Olympic lanes crashes forcing the drivers to use regular sat-nav which doesn't have the Olympic lanes network built in.
So knowing the Daily Mail's track record of reporting the truth, it's probably wrong.0 -
I think it's good having the lanes open earlier, as I saw on the first day on the news, traffic didn't know what to do on one of the motorways when they saw they were about to go into a games lane. It caused congestion, now that most people who travel on that road (commuters) know about it they wont cause congestion, cause they know to plan ahead.
Just put yourself in the mind of an athlete, you have more peace of mind that you will get to the Olympic venue on time, not be stuck in traffic. So your mind set will be clearer, and you can concentrate.
Yes it's a disruption to every day life, but it's not for long, and they do say try to avoid driving in central London, which is where a lot of the games lanes are. I think it's madness driving in central London anyway!0 -
Seems like a hell of a lot of disruption to peoples normal day to day lives just so a few athletes can have a gloryfied sportsday. Dont think for one minute that anyone is representing their country, if they win and the money starts rolling in they wont be sharing it out.Be Alert..........Britain needs lerts.0

Tax haven and all that, any winnings they get when in the UK are tax-free, it's a demand from the IOC.0 -
There seems an easy answer to the athletes being late for an event without having to disrupt the rest of the population of London.
They only have to do what everyone else does when they're going to work ........ leave home earlier.
I was going with "have this pathetic overhyped marketing opportunity somewhere else and leave us in peace" but your suggestion works too.
I've got no problem with the actual sporting events but to hell with everything about the whole Olympic "experience".If you don't stand for something, you'll fall for anything0 -

Lets disrupt and delay MILLIONS of people for a few hundred.
And what is wrong with these "special people" using public transport, like we are always being told to do.
Total hypocrites grrrrrrrrr
Absolutely, what a farce.
I feel for the taxi drivers who pay to use restriceted lanes and then they have them pulled away from them with no refund.

!
Other sportsmen & women put up with it in London any other time and perform!
It's just absolutely pathetic.0
