Olympic Lanes

What a total joke.

Lets disrupt and delay MILLIONS of people for a few hundred.

And what is wrong with these "special people" using public transport, like we are always being told to do.

Total hypocrites grrrrrrrrr

Its for two months, and why should they have special lanes? And why do they need them open before the games start and after they finish?!

I am annoyed about them as well, but I suspect the opening either side is to make sure that people get to and from where they need to be.

Probably because all the 'stuff' you need for an event the size of the Olympics can't just be helicoptered in to be in place for the start. Maybe also so they can rehearse/debug transport routes and practice getting the army to the right places etc.

Some of the athletes and officials are already here and will need ferrying about also.
  • The lanes were made a compulsory requisite after the 1996 games when athletes got so caught up in traffic that they actually missed the events they were competing in.

However, don't think that they should be closed to the like of you and I for that long every day, there must be a way out of it, even it is similar to emergency vehicle access, we automatically do what ever is necessary to allow them by.

I agree with the above poster, its not to bad having the lanes open when they are needed, but the need to open them before and after is ridiculous!
Why cant said athletes sit in traffic if they havnt got an event to be at?!

Was on the M25 yesterday and now know why they needed to buy BMW's saw several of them with their garish decals speeding (literally) along hogging the outside lane, typical BMW behaviour so perhaps central reservation hugging at 90mph is a function built into these cars?

Be shame if we win the 5000 metres because some numpty showing off in his Olympic Beemer crashes and kills our main competitor!

I can see your point, but since we won the bid for the games it's a non-negotiable, it's now all about logistics.

Having said that I did enjoy "abusing" the lanes through town last Saturday before the regs kicked in. As they say, little things please little minds...
