We've got a black wheely bin for landfill, a green one for compost, a brown one for bottles and plastic and a blue box for newspapers.
My brown bin disappeared without trace last time it was collected. I left it a few days in case it turned up then rang the council. They said it was £35 for a new one:eek:. What use is a brown wheely bin to anybody? I told them all my bottles, plastic and alumnium will be going in the landfill in future. They said that's fine....0 -

Thank you Naf.
The sticker dosen't realy say they are not collecting the extra waste to minimize waste. It says, they are trying to minimizing waste and only waste in the bin will be collected.0 -

A fair point; the sticker doesn't state it as a direct link between the two.
What does directly link them is the response letter I received yesterday:
"the council have a statutory obligation to reduce the amount of waste we send to landfill and in order to help achieve this obligation a strict no side waste policy exists. This policy is aimed at not only achieving our reduction in the tonnes of waste sent to landfill but also to assist in further increasing the amount of recycling we collect"

Were I live the Green garden waste bin is optional and the council charge for it.
So they don't want people putting grass in the black bin and avoiding paying the extra!0 -
Thats odd.
You normaly diverts garden waste from landfills. When garden waste decomposes in landfills it produces large amount of methane. A powerfull greenhouse gas. That does not apply to all councils as some (ours included) actually sell the compost they produce from garden waste.
Mysteriously, when I go the the council tip, I am given the 'opportunity' to buy compost yet I am told that both our black bin waste and our green bin waste goes to Erin Void!Don't put it DOWN; put it AWAY"I would like more sisters, that the taking out of one, might not leave such stillness" Emily Dickinson

Someone are telling porkies if they claim garden waste and domestic household waste are being composted together. It would create a highly contaminated compost that cannot be used. It dosen't happen.
Garden waste is composted at a composting facility.
Domestic household waste is incinerated with energy recovery.
Unless you have rigorous and robust monitoring in place, you don't put anything in a landfill that can leak or produce emmisions.0 -
you misread
the GARDEN waste is sent to LANDFILL as is the black bin waste. For some reason, although they are collected separately they are both ending up in the same 'hole'!Don't put it DOWN; put it AWAY"I would like more sisters, that the taking out of one, might not leave such stillness" Emily Dickinson

I find it hard to belive. But if you been told that it does, then it does.
Did he say where the compost came from.0 -
I know! I have no clue where they get the bagged compost they sell; but previously they did a composting thing where we could put card in the green bins.Don't put it DOWN; put it AWAY"I would like more sisters, that the taking out of one, might not leave such stillness" Emily Dickinson
