We have a black bin for glass, cans and paper, but each of the types have to be segregated in their own bags - plastic bags that you have to provide. I found this out when I got a note form the bin men saying they couldn't empty the bin unless the contents were bagged.
I phoned the council to complain, and also asked where I was supposed to get the bags from - I have taken my own bags to supermarkets for years, so don't have a ready supply. The woman on the phone agreed that it was daft, but the recycling is contracted out and the council don't have a say in decisions like that!!!2021 - mission declutter and clean - 0/20210 -
Where my dad lives, you can put leaves and pruned branches from apple trees in the green bin. These are OK because they are "garden waste", but apple cores are "food waste" and have to go in the black bin..:rotfl::rotfl:0

We used to carefully sort recycling stuff into various recycling bags. Until we saw what they were doing. Binman empties all of the bags into a big wheelie bin and then the wheelie bin is emptied into the recycling truck.
I am convinced it is so that the council can tick boxes on a central goverment form. They can say truthfully that they collect segregated recyclables.

Dave - what makes you think they aren't recycled? They could actually be using a sorting machine based on weights at the recovery site. Many places do this. But of course if they don't tell you, you get the wrong idea.I have had many Light Bulb Moments. The trouble is someone keeps turning the bulb off

I put a dead rabbit in the garden waste bin once =:-O
She was all stiff and had died lying down lengthways, so her little feet were poking up through the hay in the bin. So I had to cover her feet with grass.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. My council supplies me with a green bin into which glass, paper, plastics, tins and cans go. And another bin for food waste. And they will now take electricals. Not unsurprisingly we are in the top three in the uk for waste recycling....0

My husband put a dead magpie in ours. After it had been emptied! It was the first thing in the bin, so was right at the bottom for two weeks. The next time it was emtpied, it was still there - all stuck to the bottom - we had to stick a spade in to loosen it. :eek:0 -
We had an odd situation at the start of the year where no recycling was collected from our end of the street for over 8 weeks.
I tried to contact them to complain but I couldn't do this if a collection was less than 5 working days late and due within the next 5 working days, their policy.
As they were fortnightly collections it meant they'd missed the Friday (upto 15:30) so I couldn't report it until after 15:30 the following Friday, except I still couldn't report it as there was a collection due the following Friday before 15:30.
I did ask if they considered Saturday a working day but apparently they only work Mon-Fri, Sat is reserved for bulk collection only and is not considered a working day for the purpose of recycling collection.
After the 8 weeks of nonsense I contacted my local MPs office and let them sort it.0 -
Its silly to put freshly cut grass into a waste fraction that is on a fast-track to be burned. Freshly cut grass contains alot of water.
There are better things to do with garden waste other than burning it.0 -

I put two dead geese in mine . I covered them with brambles and grass cuttings. Didn't have a problem.:)0
