Can my mother cash a cheque for me?

I tried opening a simple account with RBS not too long ago, but they wouldn't let me as I didn't have enough ID as like I said, I have a birth certificate in another surname, and that's all the ID I really have, so can you think of a way for me to open a savings account with next to no ID?
And as for a one-off electronic payment, they can do it to myself easily, but they won't put it into my mothers account, the reason I can't get it into my account is like I said, it's frozen.
People sometimes change their name - like for a woman getting married (in which case there should be a marriage certificate) or if you're changing your name by say, 'deed poll', you'd probably need a statutory declaration (both these documents would probably satisfy a bank).
I would contact a solicitor about such documentation - financial institutions are very twitchy these days about satisfactory ID0 -

So just to sum up my situation, short of me getting another bank account opened, I'm a bit screwed and I have no other options?0

Because, as I've learned the hard way, there's no proff that an employee has been paid with cash, despite the payment to HMRC for them.
You get the recipient to sign and date a receipt, with signature of witness if this is felt to be necessary.0 -

Yes, you need some kind of evidence to confirm that it is your birth certificate. Read 'Evidence of change of name' at http://www.adviceguide.org.uk/england/relationships_e/relationships_birth_certificates_and_changing_your_name_e/change_of_name.htmThanks, but no thanks, I know exactly why they're frozen, but it's more of a personal matter so for now, I would like to leave that.
Yes, but it might help. Otherwise how can anyone be certain that any new account you open won't get frozen the minute it's open?0 -
Get the boss to write the cheque with your mothers name only on it and your name on the cheque stub with a note to say it was made payable to your mother.
That looks like the only way you are going to get round it by the looks of things.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -
I understand what you're trying to get at there, but I will work out the whole new account thing as soon as I have this months wages in my hands, so that's a problem for future me to worry about, right now, I just need this money in my hands as soon as possible after pay-day.Yes, but it might help. Different banks ask for different combinations of ID -check what other banks and building societies need. Do you have an old savings book from a long fogotten account anywhere you could resurrect ? Doesn't need to be a current account an old savings passbook with a penny in it will do.I Would Rather Climb A Mountain Than Crawl Into A Hole
MSE Florida wedding .....no problem0 -
I have a Post Office account from when I was on benifits, but I signed off Jobseekers in April so I don't know if that would still be working or not.Different banks ask for different combinations of ID -check what other banks and building societies need. Do you think it would still be active?0
