  How ridiculous, what would be the point of that ?

I vaguely remember an Enid Blyton story set on a farm -can't remember any quinces though.
I remember the The Folk of the Faraway Tree,The Enchanted Wood and The Adventures of the Wishing Chair by Enid Blyton. Have just picked them up in charity shops - for my grandchildren, really, but I intend to read them again. I also loved all the Katy books! This is a real trip down memory lane, now!

Does anyone remember "The secret island" by Enid Blyton? Four children run away and live on an island growing their own food and living in a cave they took chickens with them and a cow I believe. To this day I fancy doing that very same thing!!

Just spent the last couple of hours reading my Milly-Molly-Mandy books :D - I'd misremembered a few bits but not much!

Quick additional question - who remembers the Dorothy Edwards "My Naughty Little Sister" books? That was proper OS as well. Especially the story where she and Granny make a Bonfire Pudding to take their mind off the fireworks :D

    Oh yes

was thinking about these today (I don't have a lot in my mind!). I got one when I got a tooth taken out at the dentist and read it over and over. I remember the one where she and a boy (cousin? friend?) play with the box from her new oven rather than the oven itself.

    And the bonfire pudding.

AAaaaargh and you know what I just realised - I must have had My Naughty Little Sister at the back of my mind all day. Cos it wasn't Milly-Molly-Mandy who had an eiderdown and a counterpane. It was My Naughty Little Sister (in her Big Girl's Bed) :D

And if you remember her playing with a boy, that would be her friend Bad Harry :D

Off to dig more books out :o

    Another good one Bargain :T
I'm going to look out for My Naughty Little Sister for Dd at the library.

I remember the Christmas pud making on Bonfire night really well. There was another that involved a really OS present for the little girl - a box full of special things (can't remember exactly what ) like a string of glass beads, a piece of shimmery material, a feather - that sort of thing. I was going to give my daughter something like that when she was younger but forgot - still she's only 7 there's still time.

    Of course

    Bad Harry

    How could I have forgotten?

DD - you are going to have a lot of books to read. Never mind, you've got time.

I've still got all my "Chalet School" books, will never part with them. I remember them all playing tricks in "Domestic Science" - someone used sulphur instead of saffron in their buns once. Ugg.

Another set of books which are kind of OS (well I think of them everytime I hear about Thriftlady's quinces) are the Enid Blyton ones where the city cousins come to live on the farm. There's the fancy cousin Melisande and the plain cousin Jane. I seem to remember scenes in the kitchen with the maid Dorcas.

Can anyone remember the name of the series?

    .

Children of Cherry Tree Farm, then Willow Tree ones after their parents got them to move to the country. (How sad am I?)

    Loved MMM.

What about Eve Ibbotson and the family at one end street stories - the bits were Lilly Rose etc went to stay in the country at the Dew Drop Inn (do drop in...) and so on were OS, as was pa and his pig in the garden.
