Thanks Jon, however, that has blown my plans for this morning!Just off the border of your waking mind, there lies another time ....0

Just checked the WHS Clubcard rules and should point out -
"Are there any restrictions?
Points will not be awarded on and cannot be redeemed against, purchases of gift vouchers, charity products, stamps, National Lottery products, phonecards, book tokens, theatre tokens, tobacco, cigarettes and certain other goods that may be notified from time to time. "
£2 off a £5 purchase is still a great deal but unfortunately not on stamps.
Regards
Jon
Indeed WH Smith refused to allow me to use the voucher when I tried yesterday. Perhaps weekend staff are less aware of the rules.0 -
arent stamps legal tender? couldnt you buy a stamp for 32p before the increase, take it back to the post office a day later and sell it back to them for 34p?0

I received a letter just after the last price rise and size restrictions came in it had a first class stamp and was within the new size and weight but I was asked for a payment because of insufficient postage, when I refused to pay as it was well under the new letter requirements I was was told it was because it had an out of date first class stamp on it, after protesting I did get the letter without payment. I sent full details to the Royal Mail including a photocopy of the envelope but never did get a reply. What is Royal Mail's position on this point? can they tell from the phosphor line in the stamp?0

even if they were legal tender, the post office would just say no: we don't want to give you any money for that, but thanks for asking.
i doubt that you could force them: if legal tender = money, then you be hard pushed to get any shop to swap you money for money i.e. legal tender for money.
it would be great if they would, but I think the post office would be bankrupt overnight if that actually worked! This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -

What is an out of date first class stamp, if it only says 1st class surely that's what it is

Nope - although many people will take them for small purchases

I work at WHSmith on Saturdays and have seen these kind of vouchers before, usually just scanning them seems to work (Also if the cashier refuses to accept it, ask to speak to a manager as they will usually say it's fine.)
The 200 points should theoretically be able to be spent on the transaction too.
With the restrictions in place over stamps, lottery etc not accruing points (Which is all automatic - the tills put the points on themselves.) the £5 you spend might have to not include any of these kinds of products.
Then again I do not think there are any restrictions on the till system itself that prevents you from redeeming points against stamps. (I'm not sure about this - will have to check) so it would be up to the cashiers' discretion, and most staff especially weekend staff won't bother to check if it's allowed first if the till doesn't stop them from doing it.
Hope this helps!I don't believe and I never did that two wrongs make a right0 -
I stocked up on a ship load of stamps, just before the last rise. I am quids in already because we have used a lot of them. We still have a ship load left ie rolls and rolls. Its a no brainer if you are very particular about weighing and sizing the items to be posted0
