Damage caused when parking sensors were fitted

Hi everyone

I had to have my car recovered today as it cut out whilst I was driving. It was recovered to an audi dealership who have found that it was caused by the wiring for the parking sensors that I had fitted back In February (not fitted by Audi). When the fitter installed the wiring he has dislodged the pipes that prevent water leaking into the boot. As such, water has slowly been leaking in and corroding the ECU component in the boot. I'm absolutely livid as it's going to cost me over £800 to get fixed. Does anyone know where I might stand legally with regards to getting some sort of compensation from the company that fitted the sensors? It's clearly the fault of the fitter so do you think they might stump up for the repair. They must have some sort of liability insurance for this type of thing?

Any help will be much appreciated

Thanks

Hannah

What sort of place fitted them, a proper garage or a mate who was cheap?

They were supplied and fitted by a company called fittedparkingsensors.co.uk

Can you prove the fitter dislodged the pipes and if so how?

Only by what Audi have told me. I didn't even suspect that the parking sensors would have something to do with it, but the Audi dealership gave that as the culprit straight away. They said that where the wires have been fed through the vehicle the pipes have been dislodged. That's all I have to go by really.

Will Audi put that in writing?

I'm sure they would if I asked them. If so do you think that the company that fitted them are liable to pay for the repairs?

Possibly, what did you sign before the work was started and where would Audi run their wires?

The only thing I signed was something that marked any cosmetic damage to the vehicle prior to work commencing (paintwork etc) and that the work was completed. I'm not sure, I would have to ask Audi that. I assume that they would run it in the same place if not a very similar place, as they have rectified the leak without removing the system and have done a water test to check it is no longer leaking. They just said that the pipes appeared to have been dislodged during the original installation, which obviously should have been avoided or at least noticed and rectified by the installer before he completed the job

Do you have a copy of the paperwork?

If they have run the wires the same way Audi would, you may have difficulty proving it was the fitter who dislodged them.

This is a link to the parent company, Chameleon:

It will show you the address of the parent company, I suggest you write to the CEO and give him the facts of the case. You will need a written report from the Audi garage and the paperwork from the parking sensor fitters. I suggest you send photocopies, marked as such, and be clear that you have the originals.

No Ceo, or even his PA, likes to receive this kind of letter.

    Good luck!
I think this job really needs
