Why can you not book some time off and go away somewhere? Does he not have days off?

It doesn't have to be expensive, you can go camping by the coast or something but if you have nothing to look forwards to, or no goal to work towards you are not really living, just existing.

    I know

He was meant to be off jubilee weekend, and we took our caravan to the coast, at the last minute he was called into work!! myself, my DD and her pal went tho, it wasnt the same.

he has no set days off, eg he can be sent to England / Scotland for 2 /3 weeks at a time, then he gets home, works around Ireland for a week or so, (usually nights) then away again.

It sounds miserable, I think you need a goal as a couple though, even if it is a weekend in your caravan in 3 months time, or a more long term goal in terms of him not being away so much.

It looks like you have been productive though, because you weight loss in your signature is seriously impressive. I normally pick and eat not so good stuff when my OH is not here! Your sig is very inspirational.
  • I'd say there has to be some give and take. He needs to book time off and mean it, go somewhere with no phone signal (large parts of Scotland) and have a weekend to yourself.

Is this a situation that will continue indefientaly? If so, and it's making you unhappy perhaps it's time for the OH to start putting feelers out for a job with less travel. No rush but be on the look out.

My DH works away too :( He comes home every other weekend which is not enough.
I find it hard but think he finds it a lot harder being out of the loop so to speak.I find I am making all the decisions without even thinking about it.Then when he phones(which is everyday) I forget to mention it.
The other thing is DSS lives with us so I have sole responsibility for him (he is 15)
Last time he came home he really wants to leave the job but we cant afford it.Contract is until December so we have both said we will work as much as we can and hopefully pay the mortgage off by Christmas and then he has the choice of working nearer on less money but then without mortgage we will be ok.
But it is hard and I cant wait until he is home for good.:)

Debt free and Mortgage free thank you to all for your encouragement and advice

    thank you.

a weekend in October / November in a carvan...no thanks :rotfl:

i know what you mean tho, he needs to book holidays, AND take them.

yes i am lucky to have my work, walking, water aerobics, swimming, exercise classes etc to keep me busy, also i am a big reader and can go to bed early with a book and sleep for 8hours so i dont find the days so long at times,

but it is just having someone to share you day with, chat to about your day etc.

What does he do?! I worked for a management consultancy who are known to be notorious slave drivers but it was never like this!

there is literally NO work here at the mo, a lot of the ads in the jobcentres involve travel, out of the frying pan into the fire,

it prob will go on indefinetly

he is lucky to have a job, he was made redundant a few years ago, and i had to take on 5 (yes 5) jobs to keep us all,

the last thing i want is to moan and yap that much about it, that he quits, and then where does that leave us

thanks for listening everyone, thanks for all the advice and letting me know i am not the only one,
