Good grief - How ridiculous, hope they accept OP's explanation and what a waste of public money for this (if that is what it is).

maybe as the payment was made on a debit card it is not too clear who the money went too?

it is still very unusual for a bank to borrow money on the back of benefits .

When did the bank borrow money on the back of benefits?
Fred - Where's your get up and go?

Barney - It just got up and went.

it would have been better if they did, instead they borrowed on the back of bad debt.

I think you missed my point? :rotfl:

Could they possibly have lent rather than borrowed?

Take all copies of every financial statement, letter, loan document, car payment, everything, and put it in order in a file. If you have someone who can go with you then take them. If not, just go in, listen to what they have to say, and don't say anything unless you feel happy to clearly and directly answer their questions. If you feel you need help then suspend the interview and go to the CAB. They have instructions to be 'robust and challenging' and to ask the same question several times to try to get a different answer. So just be calm, think before you speak, and don't fall into the hole of them leaving a silence once you've finished, and you keep babbling on and end up saying something that you didn't mean to. I'm a great one for managing to dig myself into holes that didn't exist.
If you don't understand what they as asking them ask them to go over it clearly with you. It sounds to me as though it's either your mum's account or the car, although why they wouldn't send you to a compliance meeting before seems a bit odd. Perhaps someone has reported you for something else, you'll have to wait until you're in there to find out.
Good luck, remember once you've been to see them you can start to work out how to resolve the issue.

If you read the thread you will see she has 2 disabled people in the house who get a payment for travel cost which are meant to be used for travel costs not a mortgage payment, if she came on here saying she was using it for a mortgage I bet you would have slagged her for that too :rotfl:

Is that how is has worked out though? Do the mobility payments cover the loan repayment, so it can easily be shown that the benefit is being used for its precise purpose and that extra benefit money isn't being used to repay the car loan? If that is the case then the OP shouldn't have anything to worry about, surely.

If that wasn't the case I can see the other poster's point in using money to repay a loan when that money COULD be used to pay the mortgage interest themselves.

DLA is paid to help with a disabled persons living expenses so they could spend it on almost anything. She doesn't need to show how it is spent, it is also not means tested.

Why would the OP spend that money on a mortgage when they get a payment for that!

Maybe his suggestion would be more useful given to the Government, to cut one of the benefits cos if she were to use the DLA on her mortgage then see would have a load of mortgage payment benefit left over ;)

You are missing the point. If she can show the interviewers that the DLA payments cover the loan repayment, then IF the interview is centred around this loan, she can surely easily justify using the loan to buy a car?

And the point about the mortgage was that basically she obtained a loan for £6k, which added to her savings took her over the £6k capital threshhold. She CHOSE to then spend that money on a car. Someone with an amount of money over the threshhold of £6k may possibly not be entitled to the mortgage assistance she is getting. So if she hadn't spent the loan on a car, she could potentially have spent the money on making her own mortgage payments for a while (as plenty of people not on benefits do every month - robbing peter to pay paul and using credit cards for bills, etc). Does that make sense? I think that is the point that the other poster was trying to make!

Anyway, this is all speculation as we don't even know yet what the whole interview request is based on. It might have nothing at all to do with the loan anyway.
