Petrol prices on the rise again

The AA have confirmed that petrol prices are on the rise again, infuriating the motorist, as the rises come at a time when the falls have not been completely passed on.

The AA were recently very vocal about retailers not passing on falls quickly enough, but passing on rises within a week. The government agreed and stated "yes, that's naughty, carry on". What they stated is now confirmed.

They suggest the falls shouldn't even have finished yet, but retailers are already increasing prices in response to a recent rise in oil prices. The state that current evidence is that the pump price is based on speculation, rather than supply and demand.
AA president Edmund King said: "It was inevitable that pump prices would eventually rise again but... what is driving them up?"

He said: "Is it the fundamentals of supply and demand or speculation in the oil and wholesale fuel markets? Current evidence seems to suggest the latter."

The AA said motorists would have been paying even less if the fall in the north-west European wholesale price of petrol been fully passed on to consumers.

    Phew!

If it carries on like this, people might start to think that oil companies are selfish, greedy, money-grabbing, profiteering cartels - totally unregulated by sleezy governments who are happy to trouser the huge extra tax revenues......

    God forbid....

Rather than infuriated aren't people just resigned to the fact that petrol is expensive and will remain so in the future?

I guess there is one hedging facility, buy oil company shares ;)

Well along with overpriced housing, it's another thing that just sucks up household budgets and reduces peoples spending power elsewhere. Therefore hindering any chance of recovery.

If someone finds their circumstances adversely affected wouldn't good advice be to adapt as best as they can?

If Charles Darwin could read this board he'd wonder how some people made it out of the trees.

Thanks wotsthat. Instead of driving to work and back, I'll just adapt, and drive one way only.

Life is rosy again. Cheers bud. :)
