I kind of like it here just would be nice to have more space and be able to rent a room out for a house mate.
You've said that you're second room is a bit small to rent out.

Could you swap rooms & rent out your room instead? Or would that be too much of a sacrifice?

    Hi,

I thought about that the other day. It's quite a tough decision after so many years of living alone I think.

Certainly would make such a difference though having an extra £390 a month coming in. Then again I would have to pay full council tax and extra bills.

    Worth thinking about though.

Well if you really want tickets it's possible to get them! Each evening they release more tickets. Tonight there were over 27 pages of them up for grabs, mostly £10 each. It's just a case of pressing the refresh button (over and over and over again lol) :)

Thanks Sue. What time do you go on line to see? I'm really wanting to go on the 2nd. (pre birthday treat!)

I'm struggling a bit at the moment, I did get paid a small bonus this month which covered my monthly season ticket (£240) to work by train.

Going by train is more expensive but takes less time in the morning, is much less stressful and allows me to get off a few stops early and run the rest of the way home.

I still have a largeish credit card bill, and course fees of £1800 to pay next month. This, coupled with lots of expensive weekends (I was at the Olympics last weekend, the lakes the weekend before, and off to Wales this weekend) is getting me down a bit.

Hoping for a quieter Autumn so I can start overpaying. My mortgage rate for half the mortgage will half from 5.17 to 2.5 per cent, so that will really help with monthly budgetting
    Mortgage May 2012 - £129k
    January 2015 - Mortgage down to £114k
Target for 2015 to get down to £105k

Eeek! I just realised I hi-jacked this thread. Sorry about that!

Partly my fault, but I thank you for your suggestions! It's all very useful stuff for me to think about.

Have just come across this thread so thought I'd join in and announce myself as a fellow single MFW!

Feel like I'd be doing so much better with an OH but no knight in shining armour has come my way yet :-(

Just so much more difficult trying to save up for a bigger house in an expensive city when you're only on an OK wage, even if you have a decent deposit.

Anyway, onwards and upwards - I'm sure I'll get there someday!

On a bit of a downer at the moment. Think I should have put some money aside to go and see the Olympic Village and Stadium.

I have enjoyed watching it on TV, but not sure it's the same.

I'm not sure being single is helping with it all at the moment. Guess I want someone special to share my life with now. Been single for a while.

I guess I saved quite a bit on the mortgage though. :p

There's always 4 years to save up for a holiday in Rio in 2016 :D

I know how you feel though! Singletonshire is a boring place sometimes :(
  • Hi, thought I'd join. A little background info. I'm 27 and I bought a house on my own 2 years ago almost, 23 years left on mortgage. I have just started overpaying by £300 a month which takes it to £840 going out.
I am in the RAF so am away from home half the time. I am overseas for 6 months as of Feb. I will overpay as much as possible, even every penny I earn as I will be living for free when I am overseas.
I rent my master bedroom out and I am in the second room which is great.
I want to pay my mortgage off within the next 10 years or even less. I am a good saver and have a quiet and simple life.
I love my golf and going out on the weekends so as long as I can do that I'm happy!
I will not be in this house forever, but will ideally pay this mortgage off first before I move.
I am due a 15k bonus next year which I may use to reduce the mortgage again.
  • I think it's hard to overpay on a sole mortgage with no one else contributing towards it. Renting a room off does make things much less lonely, my flat is far too big for one person.

Even last night, the bulb had gone and my flatmate just whipped his hand out, changed it and it was done in 5 seconds before i could even get a chair out to do it myself!!

Saying that, i can hear him leaving now for his long weekend away to Lithuania with his girlfriend. Good job i'm not home at all this weekend!!

Going to watch Looper tonight at the Cinema!
