Forget what was discussed, because people lie, particularly sales people.

Seems a big conservatory, to enter into an agreement on the basis of a few conversations.

What have you got in terms of documentation or drawings that evidences what you requested and what you paid for? For something of this value, I assume you have been provided specs for your purchase. Or something more concrete that would manage your expectations, help you visualise the final product and protect you.

The 12no down light business holds little weight in my eyes, as 12 is divisible by both four and three. You would just distribute the lights differently. As to whether is would look any good is all down to your perspective in life.

Finally, how are you / have you paid for this?

But if they've told me there will be no other difference other than the height if the plaster work to the glass roof, then surely I have been mis sold it. And the fact they sold me 12 downlights would back this up.

Or am I being totally biased?

    I agree.

But the photo you showed did in fact show what appeared to be an area the shape of a chimney breast which is there merely provide support. So if they was to install the item and the support it would resemble the product photography.

Looking through your photos I do agree it looks a little incomplete.

Perhaps you could install a small floor to ceiling cupboard which both provides the necessary support and makes use of the lost space?
Perhaps it's possible to some how install supports above? (although the gap looks very tiny, so perhaps not possible)
Perhaps install some support and then use it for a hanging plant?

I'm not a builder so forgive me if these are not viable options. Just trying to put forth some possible options to explore with the builders.

I think you potentially have a valid complaint, but whether they would agree to replace the roof is highly unlikely. It would also depend on what is stated on the paperwork and if they have any provisions that cover such situations!

Along the outward facing wall we have three windows, one downlights for each window. That would leave nine, not divisible by the remaing walls currently.

The paperwork only state the roofing option, not how many or on which walls the permits would be on. the drawings only show the external dimensions not the finished interior detail, others than number of lights, heating and sockets, and that it is to be plastered.

Paid a £99 deposit and the rest is a Barclays finance over 1 year. Term of which doesn't start until completion

I think in the absence of any detailed drawings or specs your going to be reliant on some goodwill and some assertion on you part.

As arcon mentions, I would be surprised is there isn't a method of suspending the pelmet from the internal roof line, even if it is only to offer the visual appearance of continuation.

I'm thinking of something like a lintel, where it bares in the adjacent walls, but is suspended in the centre to prevent the sag. The whole thing could then be boxed in and plastered.

If the roof line can't be used to suspend the lintels could the central support be provided by cantilevering from the wall?

I'm sure that a solution can be found, but the company need to want to help you.

The company may be reluctant to do this as it is not an "off the shelf solution. But under the circumstances I would keep on a them to exhaust all avenues.

When they suggested that they could put it up but only with gallows brackets underneath to support it, they gave me the price of pair of brackets! The bloody cheek of them! I wouldn't mind but up until now they have been great and everything was going to plan.

If you can somehow illustrate that the continuation of the pelmet formed part of your agreement with the supplier, Barclay's may be able to enforce the rectification / remedial works or replacement under section 75 of the consumer credit act.

    Your issue is evidencing this.

The gallow brackets could somehow be concealed to make the less discriminate. I was thinking of a similar bracket but without the diagonal brace. ( probably not as strong, but increased in frequency and made of steel box section)

If they offered you a price for brackets alone, and not the materials for the pelmet it seems that they are on the ropes.

By the same token, would you expect a reduction for not providing the pelmet?

There is no evidence that is is to be continuos, other than I was going to buy one that was, then wasn't made aware of the one I did buy only goes on three walls. Other than the verbal agreement that there is no difference (other than plaster work) between what I went in to buy and the one I was sold, and the verbal admittance over a phone call that this was said, I have no actually hard evidence of the pelmet being sold as a continuation on the walls.

Hmmm I'm all out of ideas. You'll hopefully get some good feedback / advise this evening so keep an eye out.

Hope you get this sorted. It's a nice conservatory, and one way or the other I'm sure you will enjoy it.
