Your annual consumption of 31,467kWh (if correct) is about twice the UK average for a property with gas CH and DHW, and does not remotely fit your description of your pattern of usage in post 1.
Give some more details-what heating and hot water system, what size of property, insulation, etc?
You are being billed on metric units-so do you have a metric or imperial meter?
Its a Metric meter it was installed in Nov last year ...
I have read on the watchdog site about the debacle of the 2 different type of meters ...
Its as i said in the first post usage wise ...

This was the actual bill for sept 11 to jan 12 ...
Gas you've used for meter number
Meter reads 22 Sep 2011 - - actual 0 Estimated 11 Jan 2012 - - actual 204 We read your meter Units converted = 204 metric units over 112 days (actual) = 2283.21 kWh used over 112 daysGas ChargeFirst 822.00 kWh x 8.339p £68.55 Next 1461.21 kWh x 3.844p £56.17 Charge this period £124.72
How we work out your gas usage
Total cost of gas used£124.72
You say the new meter was installed in Nov yet the reading on 22 Sep was 0, so what meter was that? Its a Metric meter it was installed in Nov last year ...

Also the readings you quote are confusing, some of them say actual and estimated eg 11 Jan or did the estimated refer to 22 Sep but that also said actual.
When it was changed they should have left a card attached to the meter showing the final reading on the old meter and the start reading on the new one, was the start reading zero?0 -

But check the card attached to the meter to see what the start reading was according to the fitter.
The bill info i posted was a direct copy from the BG site ...
I do not have a card but there is a yellow sticker on the front ,..
With new and old index info .is this the info you spoke of ...

This might be a clearer read ...

Well with the 11 Jan reading of 204 being actual by meter reader it looks highly likely the start reading was zero or thereabouts but it was estimated, why? This might be a clearer read ...

Yes somewhere near the meter it should give the reading when the installer fitted it, and that reading should have been forwarded to your supplier together with the reading from the old meter.
The reading of 20 April was estimated so the actual could have been higher meaning that bill would be higher and your current bill lower than £1000, but even so you have used about 30000kwh in approx 10 months and that is quite huge.
Most of it was used between 11 Jan and 12 July, 28800kwh in 6 months. Thats where the problem is.0 -
Estimated bill on 20th April is the key here. Where we are the weather was pretty warm up to Christmas so we used very little gas for heating - afterwards the cold seemed to drag on for weeks - not really cold but until the warm spell in March/April it was cold and damp which meant we used more gas. My guess here is that they've estimated the April quarter based on the warm quarter to January, when in fact you were probably using much more gas. That consumption is now in the July bill because it wasn't billed in April.
Not running the heating during the day is energy saving because you aren't losing heat all day, but if you come home in the evening and then want it warm till morning you will use a lot of gas to get it up to temperature so don't underestimate that. However it still looks like a lot of gas for one household unless its a very inefficient boiler and/or the insulation etc is poor.Adventure before Dementia!0 -
I think I may have an idea what went on ...
The story goes like this the meter was at 01654 when the tech installed it but BG had it at zero...
So as of now the bill is being stopped and recalculated ...
And we are waiting for a call back ....
Fingers crossed ...
I have no idea of how much we now owe but please god its not that much ....0 -
