What's your non OS guilty secret?

I've tried, I really have, honestly but I just can't compromise on LURPAK.
I wince when i look at the price, OH laughs that i root around looking for bargins and then blow all that I have saved on 1 tub of Lurpak spreadable.
If I could find an alternative that does taste as good, I would change, its soooo extravagant.
.
I would sooo agree with that!

Gravy granules, Heinz or HP Baked Beans, Heinz tinned tomato soup, take-aways when DH away, having a cleaning lady once a week to name but a few! However, I do make loads of savings in so many other areas so don't feel too guilty!

I still buy sliced bread (although a loaf lasts us about two weeks so its not that expensive really..)
I work about two minutes away from M & S and go about once a fortnight and buy a ploughmans sandwich, mini carrot cake and grape juice for lunch - nom nom
I ashamed to admit this but..me and my OH have a takeaway EVERY WEEK:eek:
And yes, i also buy gravy...i dont even know how to make real gravy...May Grocery Challenge -£216/4000 -
I'm sure cigarettes are technically OS even if they aren't very MS because people used to think they were good for you! :rotfl:
My terrible OS secret is that sometimes we go through such a run of takeaways that I consider a ready meal to be a fantastic alternative and much more nutritious... especially if it's an M&S one!I don't believe and I never did that two wrongs make a right0 -
We buy Gravy Granules (own brand), ready made pastry (neither me nor OH were ever any good at making it), jars of sauce to make a meal go a bit further -we think it saves a bit as we don't have to buy the ingredients that are in it (not always things that we'd buy), ready made pasties if they're on offer.
Looking around at some of the bargains there's quite a bit thats cheaper ready made than it is if you do it yourself. Always check ingredients though to make sure it really is value for money.
I figure we do as much as we can OS - we're a very 'make do and mend' household when it comes to clothes and furniture so I don't really have any guilt about making life a little easier in other areas.Mary
I'm creative -you can't expect me to be neat too !

Jars of pasta bake sauce. The stuff you pour over dry pasta, bung in oven and ignore. I think if I *could* make a 'copy' myself it would include cream (I only have the creamy tomato and herb one)... so wouldn't be cheap... and it would take ages ... it's my 'can't be arsed to cook' meal :P
Bisto gravy granules... the vegetarian ones. I don't even know how you'd make vegetarian gravy from scratch.0 -
the only thing I can think of...gravy granules
(but I'm sure there are more!)

I buy puff pastry, but professional chefs do too and you need a massive kitchen surface to make it. I do make shortcrust pastry though.
I buy bread for sandwiches during the week because i don't have a breadmaker and don't have freezer space to store homemade bread made in batches (no time midweek to make new loaf)
I buy wine, we will be making it once we have a bit more room!
I have bought flavoured couscous, its 97p for 2 sachets each one does lunches for both of us so to me mixed with leftover roast veg and chicken is cheap and quick as a lunch (I also do have regular non flavoured couscous) )
I do buy MAC makeup, most I bought for me to do my wedding makeup (see moneysaving ROTFL) but it lasts absolutely ages and ages and is longlasting once on.
haircuts. £30 twice a year, its long but i can't cut it properly myself.
am i really bad?
18 months on...
still using MAC, but same stuff. buy a new foundation once a year.
haircuts down to £20, once or twice a year.
no flavoured couscous, just plain.
still buy puff pastry :rotfl: it really is a pita to make.
i do now make ALL our bread, pizza dough etc
I do make wine, probably 120 bottles have been made in 18 months. (and mainly drunk -hic-)
add to list:
Hellmans mayo, we only have food with free range eggs, this is cheaper than the organic one.
we now don't buy any eggs, due to the chickens at the bottom of the garden.
only free range/ happy meat. which is now heading to sustainable fish too. we "could"buy value but prefer not to.
we don't make crisps!
still no ready meals. takeaway once a month at most.0
