b1oody plumbers mate it's useless i never use it

hear here! My personal (sometimes kitchen fitter) advice is to use sanitary grade silicon to do the job (and so much more - I<3 the stuff!)

Thanks again, its now the attachment of the dishwasher to the trap that's leaking, so I've put silicone on that too and it'll hopefully fix the issue.

O NO!!! Another trigger happy masticator!

A thin smear of LSX should be sufficient for the sink. As far as the WM connection is concerned if the jubilee clip is tightened up sufficiently then no water should come out (you have used one I guess?). If its coming out of where the spigot connects to the trap then its just not fitted properly.

    Cheers

    Welome to bodgersrus ?

    Silicon, mastics, no way!

Plumbers mate has been used SUCCESSFULLY for years and before that, Putty, it works, but it has to be applied properly!

    ROFLMAO.

Its what LSX was designed for - its fine. Are you of the age that still thinks copper will never replace lead?

I agree about the Plumbers Mait but wasn't going to criticise another poster. Putty is just plain messy to start with, goes rock hard in time (unlike PM) and really does put you back in the Jurassic. :D.

As always there are more ways of killing a cat than drowning it.

complete cr*p as the OP has already tried pm & it leaked now he has used mastic & guess what it doesn't leak (surprise surprise), pm doesn't set, any bits of dirt or hair just sticks to it, if it's under the sink it will drip, mastic a waste into a sink or basin it doesn't leak fact (if done properly), you can't use pm on a nut then turn it it will just all squeeze out, it is utter garbage, times move on & better products come out, i mean what happened before ptfe we used boss white & hemp, yes it worked for years but ptfe is better, LSX is fine for threads but again it doesn't set so things stick to it, it's not a bodge at all IT WORKED & it's how i've been doing it for years & i NEVER get a call back for a leaky waste.
I'm only here while I wait for Corrie to start.

:rotfl: Whys that coz your old, jurasic and sensative:rotfl:

Because somethings are more modern, times have moved on etc ect (yawn) it doesnt necessarilly follow that they dont work and may be a more positive and lasting solution!

As for Putty, yes its is as stated, but it did and will still work, but is unlikely to be the best solution!

With any jointing compound of any type in this scenario the excess will squeeze out but that is the whole point that which remains, between the 2 components, will seal the joint as required, if applied correctly and not excessively, and PM is not as messy as modern mastics!
Also it is not the thread that has to be sealed it is the space between the waste and the washer above the nut threaded onto the waste and the underside of the basin, THAT is the only joint that needs to be sealed, if the internal waste to basin leaks it will only leak into the waste as does the overflow!

As for PTFE and hemp and bosswhite thats an opinion only domestic pipe bashers would adhere to :rotfl: try using it on 4" screwed and see if you still think the same :rotfl:oh maybe not that would be too hard for you modern advanced softies as you would never have known about stocks and dies, unless of course you have POWER TOOLS :)
