And when you stick a memory stick in the USB port, Windows 7 asks you if you want to transfer files just the same as Win XP did.

I think its more bloody mindedness than there actually being an issue.

    I was thinking the same.

Perhaps they're using "computer issues" as means to increase contact with their son as they know he responds.

I can't see how doing any of what was described is harder under Win 7 than XP.

    Pardon?

I'm their daughter and I still live at home with them. Lucky me gets to see them whenever I'm not working so umm...increased contact? isn't the issue. How lovely that you guys know my family better than me. ;)

The 'issue' is that for some reason, they can't grasp Windows 7 because it is different to what they are used to. I'm trying the classic mode thing and the split tiles thing with them. I'm also looking at getting them to join a computer class if I can find somebody brave enough to teach both of them at the same time :rotfl:

And while I think about it, I don't get why people have turned my question into an 'issue' in the first place. I thought it was a simple enough question. My parents are familiar with XP so can you still buy it? No big deal...

I understand your point, but please don't overlook the genuine issue that XP goes out of support in less than 2 years time.

Had you considered showing them one of the alternative ways of copying things? I initially tried to show my Dad how to copy by dragging and dropping, but he just could not get the hang of it.

But when shown how to highlight the files he wants, right-click one of them and choose Copy, point to where he wants them, right-click and choose Paste he had no problems.

Apologies but your original post mentions neither your gender or living arrangements.

My parents aren't above a little emotional blackmail to get me to visit more often :o

I have a demanding job and visit every week, despite this my mother usually opens with "Oh, it's you, you're not dead then."

For what your parents are trying to do there isn't a big difference between XP and Win 7 hence the assumption that there's some other agenda at work. There are several things my mother can't do, until it suits her.

You're right, it is a simple enough question and it's also a simple enough operation in either version of Windows. I hope you can bring them round.

Again, apologies I didn't mean to offend you.

Sorry, they were using it when I posted the thread last night. They were showing the neighbours the pictures they'd taken of their grandchild (and by that, I mean they were right clicking and selecting preview on every picture because they keep forgetting that you can use the arrows to navigate the preview window.)

    It's an Asus. Model X53U.

Sorry I overreacted a bit. I just get that reaction a lot on here :p

They do know both ways of copying and pasting. It's becoming clear that remembering might be the biggest problem. Guess who is probably going to end up writing the forgetful's guide to all that complicated stuff they didn't have back in my day?

There are no Drivers for XP on their website, so XP Mode is their only option.

Do you want to have a go at that?

They can just double click on the first one; Once open, they can hit the F11 key. It will start a slideshow of all of the pictures in that folder.

With XP Mode, everything will stay as it is, they will just have an option to use XP within Windows 7.

If you get it a lot perhaps you should take a long look at yourself and ask yourself if its the way you come across or whether you overreact.
