I have seen Bruce Springsteen 25 times, all over the world. This is the first time he has ever been subjected to this kind of police-state nonsense. I know exactly who is to blame.

Memo to self: pop stars can pick and choose which laws they obey ;-)

Ok, I'll bite - EXACTLY who is to blame for a performer breaking their contract? Or if we put it differently, if you and I have a contract between us, but I am a musician, do I get to ignore the terms we both signed up to?

Don't fall into the trap of thinking live music is something special - it is BUSINESS with CONTRACTS. As much as Springsteen and McCartney believe themselves to be too big to be held to contract, apparently they are not.

Im glad they shut it down I had 3 days of The Stone Roses. I live within 300 meters-ish of the stage, I could hear every word.

Whilst your there rocking away. think of the residents!!
I've had just 2.5 hours of a PA system from a not-very-local school fair driving me mad, so I am with you on this one!! x Although Mrs Parents' association on the PA is much easier on the ears than Paul McC

Sounds like numbers 26-50 will be elsewhere then.

I don't think it's a big as deal as the OP is making out. They ran over, it's their own fault, they let down their fans, not the promoter for pulling the plug.

I was at Sonisphere last year, and the schedule's pretty tight because they make sure the 1st and 2nd stages don't clash, they have 10-15 minute gaps inbetween performances. Sum 41 on the 2nd stage ran over by a fair bit. So they pulled the plug during the song, yes there were boos, but then cheering as the fans realised they were still playing even though we could no longer hear them.

I don't blame Sonisphere for cutting them up because otherwise I would have missed the beginning of the band on the main stage.

If they were allowed to run over it would be an excuse for the council to say no more concerts at Hyde Park which would be ashame. If you want someone to blame for the plug being pulled, blame the artists.

Last year there were 109 complaints from Westminster residents about noise from shows in Hyde Park. That's 109 complaints all year i.e. fewer than 10 complaints per show. And I'll bet it was the mostly the same people every time i.e. there were probably no more than about a dozen complainers.

Apparently this tiny handful of NIMBYS is more important than the millions brought into Westminster's economy by these shows.

We're not talking about thumping music every Saturday going on half the night, we're talking about a handful of shows annually, and last night the volume was so low anyway I doubt it could even be heard the other side of Park Lane. It was barely audible half-way back in the arena. But hey, 76,000 people could've sat in the park in total silence for 3 hours, I'll bet the same bunch would still have complained.

No it wouldn't. These shows need to be taken to some place where people appreciate the benefits to their locality instead of whining and imposing ever-more restrictive rules such that eventually there's no point in having the show at all.

Someone on that Facebook page puts it better than me:

How embarassing for HRC, LiveNation and Westminster council. I hope they all realise that the opinions of thousands of ticket-buying concert goers - not to mention the slighted musicians - is worth so much more than a handful of miserable local residents who should realise that they live in the middle of a vibrant city and for a few minutes each year they might have to expect someone else having fun.

I'd love to slap that person. I had it bad. Should I be happy others are having fun when I had work at 7 in the morning and The Stone Roses over running their license every night and setting off fireworks that sounded like we were being bombed!

    Jesus...

I'd have to be paid an awful lot of money before I would go and see either performer singing anything for however long...

The Daily Mail, of all papers, the most boring, conservative rag in the land, doubtless selling many thousands of copies in the City of Westminster, has this to say:

The controversial incident has turned London into an international laughing stock just weeks before the 2012 Olympics.

Way to go Westminster, way to go Live Nation, you must be so proud.
