Choosing a baby monitor. Advice please

My babies slept in my bed with me (following safety guidelines) and so I never needed baby monitors. This made feeding, changing, sleeping and basically everything so much easier on all of us
I personally dislike baby monitors, but am aware that it is a very strong and very personal opinion.
I coslept until a year but I used to put her to bed in our bed on her own at 6pm so we had a monitor for that period, plus we still use it now she is on her own room and she is about to turn 3. I think they have their uses. DFW Nerd Club member 023...DFD 9.2.2007 :heartpuls married 21 6 08 :A Angel babies' birth dates 3.10.08 * 4.3.11 * 11.11.11 * 17.3.12 * 2.7.12 :heart2: My live baby's birth date 22 7 09 :heart2: I'm due another baby at the end of July 2014! :j

We originally wanted an Angelcare monitor with the breathing sensor, but didn't bother as it isn't compatible with swinging/rocking cribs, which we use, and will do until baby is 6 months old and moves into his cot.
We have this - http://www.johnlewis.com/231377131/Product.aspx
Easy to use, has a temperature monitor, and the picture is really clear.0 -
Hi moneypuddle
We have this one:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/BT-Digital-Monitor-Pacifier-Purple/dp/B00517Q9C0/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1342301102&sr=8-2
Obviously little man is still in his moses basket in our room but we have tried the monitor out and now I have the star and moon display on every night - I love itPlus the gentle lighting is perfect for quiet night feeds
That's not much help with the actual monitor side of things though is it - sorry!

I am definitely a vote for bother to get one! A lot of people said to us "oh don't bother, it will make you nervous if you get false alarms!" but we'd rather have a million false alarms for that one time we might need a warning about no movement.
We have the Angelcare Movement Monitor for home and then for when we visit people for the day we have the Snuza Halo.
The Angelcare is so amazing and I recommend it to people all the time lol! It's one of the only ways we would have got any sleep as we were both so anxious due to family history. We didn't get the one with a video thing because she never sleeps in another room so I can't comment on that part of it.
The Snuza Halo is a really clever one. It clips on to baby's nappy and if there's no movement for 15 seconds, it vibrates to try and remind baby to breathe (for sleep apnea) and after 5 more seconds an alarm sounds so you can go to baby. We use that one when we go to friends houses because she will nap in her pram and the Angelcare wouldn't work in that. We are also going to use it for when she naps in her travel cot as the mattresses in that don't work with sensor pads.
It sounds excessive lol but we love them:hello::wave::hello::wave:0 -

I had seen a programme many years ago on TV about the amount of electrical equipment we surround ourselves with in our home i.e. TVs, clock displays left on cookers/microwaves, fridges plus most of us sleep next to electric clock radios!
I remember it saying that children were more vulnerable which made me think about using a baby monitor and night light.~Laugh and the world laughs with you, weep and you weep alone.~:)

Baby monitors are a personal choice. For some people they are a waste of money and for others they are important. You should decide what you want for your baby.
I had an Angelcare one for my youngest when he went into his cot (I co-slept in the beginning). I liked it. I didn't have a video monitor though, but I like the sensor mat for before I went up to bed after he was 6 months.
Couple of tips though - First night you get it home plug it in in your living room and bedroom. Check it doesn't interfere with anything in your house like your tv or cordless phone. Also keep it on through the night. The first night we used the one we got for our first daughter the Ex-H and I were kept awake for hours with the clicking sound it made.0 -
I have the angel care and am very pleased. I have a very active DD and the mat picks her up wherever she roams in her cot.
The TT one I have heard goes off falsely a lot and isn't as sensitive
