The only option under tools is 'synchronize...'
Then policies have been put in place to prevent what you are trying to do.

Sounds like you've been locked down somewhat - but there are a couple of bits of swift footwork that may get you clear.

Can you right-click on the bar at the bottom of your desktop (a blank bit) and choose Task Manager from the pop-up menu?

If so - start task manager then file/new task (run...)
    type 'cmd' (without the quotes)

A box should pop up, black with white text - this is a command prompt.

If the thumb drive is letter 'x' for instance, then type 'x:' (again without the quotes and enter.

The prompt should change to x:> at which point you type 'attrib -H *.*' (again no quotes, and hit enter.

This will un-hide all the files and folders on the x: drive ;-)

No, I couldn't at the library but now I'm back at home.
After ten years of using PCs I thought it was about time I learnt how to command prompt (is it also a verb??) but despite your clear instructions I got this. It seems to think I'm interested in the 'C' drive whereas the thumb drive is 'H'.

As it's not your computer you should respect the restrictions Admin have put in place and not try to circumnavigate them.

This may or may not work....
So why are you suggesting a way to circumnavigate them?

OK I've carried this out on my PC at home. I don't know if it's worked as there are alot of files on the pendrive, so how do I identify the hidden ones?

That's the thing, if you did attrib -H *.* you no longer have any hidden files in that root directory ;-)
