BT Rip off Merchants

Hi guys

i am new here and i would like some of your professional advice if possible.

Back in November i ordered BT Infinity 40mb Unlimited Broadband they came and installed the broadband 16 days later so the engineer came to install it all and i asked if he could install it upstairs in my room as i read on the internet that the BT Home Hub 3 wasn't up to standards with the wireless signal he refused and said ill install it down here as you already have a BT box in the living room.

So i wasnt happy with his actions and did moan but he did it anyway so he installed it all got it up and running with his laptop in my living room left then when i went upstairs to my PC i could not get a wireless signal on my PC, wired connection was a no as i have a toddler and a dog who likes biting cables and i dont like trailing wires with the misses expecting at the time.

So i tried everything i could to try get a wireless signal even bought a £25 wireless network card and installed it in my PC and threw away the crappy adapter i was using still made no difference to the signal was down at low 8% signal strenght. So i phoned up BT's customer service the same day and kicked off big time stating there engineer did not install my broadband where i wanted it and now i cannot access my internet connection indian call centre as usual said im very sorry and will pass it on to my manager and someone will call you back within 48 hours.

So 72 hours passed and nobody had called me back so i went through to the CEO office via email and moaned to them to be told if i want the hub re locating i would need to BT £130 dispite me paying for installation and hub delivery at the time.

So i refused to pay the £130 and said that its unfair to be charged this amount for something which is at BT's Fault she claimed all customers need to be treaten fairly and that the engineer has supplied a working line up to my socket and what comes from the socket then on is not there problem

So i said ok i want to use my cooling off period and want out of this contract, she came back to tell me that ive had my cooling off period and cancellation charges would apply if i wish to cancel so i said hang on a minute im entitled to a cooling off period of 14 days she said starts the day i ordered my broadband even though funnily enough it took them over that time to install it so i never had chance to test the services before i could cancel them.

I phoned the Ombudsman in Warrington OS Communications and up to now they are satisfied with BT's decesion. BT are demanding i pay them £461 within 7 days or they will pass it on to debt collection.

Its funny because i had my Virgin Hub in my living room before BT and i never had connection issues with that hub even on wireless.

BT are trying to blame the structure of my home.

Sorry for the essay and thanks for reading

Have you tried Homeplugs? They're not cheap but they'd be far cheaper than buying out your BT contract.

For £30 these should fix your issues...

If you wanted to pursue BT, of course they do advertise their Hub as having the strongest wifi available - which is of course rubbish...externally purchased routers have better strength.
  • Hi guys

Thanks for your swift reply i am actually connected back up to Virgin Media the hub in the same postion i could move it if i wanted upstairs as i have a box in my room and downstairs and the hub is connected via a splitter so it can be moved in either location although the virgin hub is in the same place where the BT hub was and im having no issues connecting wireless to their hub.

I have had it up to here with BT just need to peruse this unfair debt they have demanded i pay
